I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem: Unwanted mobs (Namely bats and slimes on superflat)

I'v been working on my Labyrinth, and I wanted to add some monster fights as well as mechanical traps, but I know that if I do not set the gamemode to peaceful the entire area would be infested with slimes.

Also, since the new Halloween update bats have been infesting the various nooks and dark crannies throughout. Besides obstructing vision, the bats ruin the feel of the puzzle I was creating.

I did some research and I finally found the solution to this problem: Just type [/gamerule doMobSpawning false] into the chat window. Bats and slimes don't bother me anymore, and If I want to add monsters to my Labyrinth, I can still use spawn eggs.

Just trying to tell others about this handy tip!

Or you could simply download WorldPainter, Make a flat world out of stone up to the max building height, and remove slime chunks. Monsters NEVER spawn that high up, and anyway, if you have a flatmap like this, you could simply TNT-through the stone to make caves for fights. I would recommend using spawners, not spawn eggs. What if the player was on peaceful and didnt realize they were meant to be on easy mode.. and.. There were no mobs. dispensor's are too easy to get rid of, also. You can get Risugami's spawner GUI to change the mob that comes out of the spawner. :D
Hope this helped you ;p

Btw. I never knew the /gamerule command ;o

Sorry- forgot to add something. I am perfectly aware that certain mods can do the same thing. This is for people who can't really mod very well/don't want to go through the hassle. You can do this on Vanilla Minecraft.
