I upgrade/made a HD texture pack, and i wish to share all my photoshop files and experiments
for anyone who decides to make new one!

Texture Pack Creating is a very hard job. I try to facilitate a bit.
The difficulty is in the creation of many small files, that takes time.
There are hundreds of Png pictures within a pack.
Even if you are experimented and work precisely, you must test all those pictures ingame.
When you decide to create new skin then you need to search a template for it
After that i strongly recomment you to use slice to make a slice "web" wich help you to clearly seperate each part of your skin
Here is some of Human Skin:http://www.mediafire.com/download/2vnyto0wadjabf5/Gothic_Skins.psd
And there some Horse Entitiy Skin:http://www.mediafire.com/download/6264hmx10pecotj/Horse.psd
When you make a new Weapon  then you must watch where the character hold it!
The best way is that you use the default Minecraft Weapon or tool for reference.
I have a Pretty good arsenal of Weapons here:http://www.mediafire.com/download/5vngh5tg23fso2s/Gothic_Weapons.psd
Overlays and Animations
I haven't much time to describe how it works, these part is the most tricky at all.
Overlays are the "ghost" textures which not visible directly in game. But helps coloring other textures
Such as: Potions, Spawn eggs, Enchanted books and Colored Leather armors.
Animations is the best part!
Basically you can add almost every texture an Animation.
When you add a texture animation you need to add another file that describes the framerate for your animated Texture.
(Pls tell me when you need more information about this and i will write everything here)
Other Stuff
Why is this useful?

  • Organized Layer Structures
  • You can modify the textures (Medival themed)
  • Use them as reference for yours
  • Combining one or two Layers

I found this very helpful! But can you write more about overlays, animations, gui and fonts? I want to make some custom changes to resourcepack which I will use in my Gothic 2 map. Thanks! :)

Overlay are the additional textures for some items. It work almost the same way as the layers in photoshop.
There are one base texture and for it, is an overlay texture too. If you want to modify or experience with it, try to modify one of the overlays, for example potion overlay. In minecraft overlays work only with coloring AND rainbow effect like enchanted book.
Animations like water and lava is pretty easy:
The base picture is a picture series. The main thing is when you need animate for example a block
you need to create a picture series like water (A picture under another one) AND you need to create a little file what describe the program how to display it (Frame rate and frame count).
You can find it easily in the texture pack.  (If i can remember correctly it has almost the same name as the picture, only the extension is the difference)
Ohh one more thing you can't animate custom block textures as far as i know.
GUI: Gui isn't hard at all, you can find gui textures within the default pack and you can easily modify it. The only thing what is inportant that you need to edit the new one exactly based on the original one. (You can skale it)
Fonts: I tryed this only once so i can't help you much within it. It works simple: in minecraft the custom fonts are pictures, so you can replace it also with yours. Okay, when you find out news about this write me how it goes ;-)
