On July 1st, 2013, horses were added to the game. For some, they were a new form of quick travel. For others, they were decoration for their Minecraft world. But...for a select group of people, horses being added to Minecraft absolutely transformed the game into something far more than it had been before.
Enter the gaming equestrians of the world, the horse girls, and the equine fanatics. Finally, this ultimate sandbox game added horses of all animals into the game.In many ways, this was great news. You have saddles, fancy armor, and an unlimited sandbox to build your best stables, riding arenas, and more.
However... I don't think anyone would say that the horses themselves are that feature-rich, let alone looks-rich. The colors and patterns are pretty basic, and breeding is a randomized mess of nonsense. As with many games that put horses in, Minecraft too fell into the crux of dropping them in without as much effort as horse-lovers probably would have liked.
I won't get into a rant about horses in video games - that's reserved for my favorite Blog, the Mane Quest. However, this does serve as an opener for my own mission going forward in Minecraft; crafting a better equine experience in Minecraft.
I have decided to finally start my journey off in Minecraft by working on a proper texture pack; one that gives more detail and depth to horses. Going forward, my endeavors in Minecraft texture-packing and more will revolve around horses, and giving a richer experience with them in the process.
That starts with giving a wider variety of coat colors and markings. Over the next few weeks, if not months, my main goal is to add more variation to each of the horse coats (through Optifine) and add more unique markings to the list. The end goal is to provide some much-needed cosmetic changes to the game.
