How Do People Become Moderators on PMC?

This question gets asked a ton. I realize there are many forum posts about this topic so I decided to create my own blog about this.

Cyprezz is the Admin / Site Developer of PlanetMinecraft. He is the one that decides who looks like they will qualify for the Moderator or new position, Forum Moderator on PMC. This is just like a normal Minecraft server, you DON'T ask to be a Moderator on this site. Cyprezz asks you.

So That Means I Can't Become A Moderator?

No, that does not mean that at all. There is a POSSIBILITY that you can become a Moderator. These are the ways of earning your trust and over time Moderators/Forum Moderators will notice you and recommend you to Cyprezz.

1. Be active on the forums - This means be nice, helpful and don't lash out on people that are still learning how to play Minecraft.

2. Don't ask Moderators to become a Moderator - I'm not sure how many questions Moderators get a day on if someone can become a Moderator. First of all, it's not up to a Moderator who to pick to be a Mod! They can recommend people however if you bother them so much, they will just simply ignore you.

3. This is just like a normal Minecraft server - If you go on a server and ask, "Can I be an OP?" Your answer will be no or the staff will just simply ignore you. This is NOT something that you ask for! The staff asks you if they feel you have qualified for the position!

Another thing that kind of annoys me, and this reflects back to my Mod/Admin blog, is that people would just like to be Moderators for the power. If you are a person that just wants to be a Moderator for the power, you are not qualified for the job. The Moderator's job on the site includes this:

1. Making sure people are enjoying PMC as much as they can.

2. Making sure people follow the site's Rules & Guidelines Page

3. Controlling spam and unneeded content on the site

Consider Moderators having a type of "job" where being a Moderator means you aren't allowed to play around with your powers (as many Server Admins/Mods do).

Well consider this a type of small tutorial, once again I'm NOT telling you that you will become Moderator of this site if you follow these things, however it will indeed give you a good reputation.

How does Cyprezz find users to see whether they are worthy of becoming a Mod? Does he just pick a user randomly, examine him, promote him (or not), then choose another random user?

This is a helpful little notice but in a way it is Ironic to the post I got here from. Telling people how to become moderaters IS an admirable thing, but if people who only want to become a moderater read this, they may change in hopes they will, then revert to being powerhungry. I started making projects on this site to share with people so they too could experience what my ideas on minecraft are, and enjoy what I have to offer. I think being a moderater would be a honor, but it would be a bit dreadful too. Like you said mods are chosen because they are helpful and enjoy being on the site. Offering how to become one seems, again, odd. Just something I think I should share with you. No hard feelings if I insulted :)

On my server we just tell em the rules about how NOT to ask for rank. Ask again kick. Ask again ban. Fairly simple.

Great post (currently featured, which is how I found it) but there is one small correction. Cyprezz does choose the mods, but the full mods also help with the decisions. PMC is a big place and we can no longer be everywhere at once. There was a time where I read every post on the forums when I was first made a mod. Now there are entire sections of the forums that I have not even seen in months. The full mods are in charge of moderating the chatroom, the forums, and the submissions (projects, skins, etc.) and they are the ones that get the reports. Our lovely new Forum mods group is in charge of the forums and chat, and the chat mods (only show as yellow names in chat, otherwise they are blue names) are in charge of controlling pure chaos. Other than this little detail, this blog post is spot on. May the Planet be with you.

Forums moderators help clean up the fourms,And the site moderators are mods for the entire site.So site moderators (yellow people) are a higher rank than us.

there should be other moderators, i.e. Project Moderators who can make sure that nothing has been copied or re-submitted by someone else. because i know of a few people who have had their projects copied (from other sites) and i would hate that to happen to my stuff =P

There is nothing I hate more than people asking "Can I be a moderator/admin?" on ANY site/game

For PM's, I only receive a few.
It's a lot worse when mods are in chat, though.

Figures. When people see the opportunity to ask a Moderator instantly, they grasp it like it's the last thing in their lives.

Their thoughts, "OMG MOD I MUST KNOW HIM/HER!!!!!"

Whenever I first signed up for the sight I never had the thought of wanting to be mod. I was just here to get some castles, talk to peeps, and report a bunch of stuff that were stolen.

Indeed, for example, I love playing servers how they are meant to be played. Just building is so much fun, I really don't understand why people need power to have fun in a server. To me, just creating houses, chatting with people is my ideal view on a good time.

I see it a ton of times on Minecraft Servers. I plan on making a server, but I don't plan on making new admin for it, I will have a few picked out in advance.

About what percentage of people in chat ask you to be admin?

Hmm.. hard to say.. I could say 10%, but it depends how many people are on. It's hard to keep track since people always pop on and new people pop off, only to ask that question as well. It'd be more appropriate to say that the question is asked frequently.

It's weird how people don't seem to understand that the more you ask the less likely it is.

Exactly!
It's nice that they show interest, but we don't want to be spammed with PM's about it.

yeah, I don`t know how many times I`ve been chatting and when a moderator comes on every one just stops saying anything else and types "can I be a mod?" 50 times. it's really annoying!
