Hey It's Eli! Sorry that I haven't blogged in a while. I found a server I could stay on for a while, and it's a really good server! I decided to come back for a bit because I got bored, so... I never thought I could make a Part 2 to my really old Blog, "How I came to like Steven Universe", but I did. These Opinions were kinda Old, as I only got a taste of the series. I was one day, looking around YouTube, bored as heck. You know that Uncle Grandpa (Space Emperor) Episode I got Scarred for life on? Well, I decided to watch it a bit, and I was generally not as creeped out as I was when I was 12. I still kinda Cringe when I see Melvin transform into a Pognog, but it's not as scary as I envisioned it. And I am happy to say, I can finally look at Melvin's Face without cringing.
Doesn't Melvin look and act like I Hate Everything (IHE) to you? No!? Oh Well... So while bored, I decided to go check out a YouTuber from my past: Cellspex. I highly recommend her, as she does some funny videos and movie critiques. While Searching, I found some Steven Universe Reviews, and while watching, I noticed a character I saw before, become very Kawaii and... Almost like me!
You heard that right! Peridot, is my new favorite gem! Isn't that a coincidence? But seriously, before, I thought of her as the Bad Guy. It's our nature to make anyone that is obviously labeled a bad guy, a bad guy. We just root for the good guys because it's what we're used to. I actually kinda hated her before, but not to a degree where it's like Jasper. Peridot seemed to be like that Robot who does all of what Jasper says, because reasons. The 1st Episode I saw her in was "Jailbreak", so if she appeared in anything before that, I apologize for my lack of Knowledge. Before she was this kind of that "Sir, we're Ready for Takeoff" guy, that one who just starts the ship and is just there. She also seemed boring and lame because of the stereotypical "It's the bad guy who has no Emotions and just wants to destroy the Crystal Gems". She was more like this:
I felt like I wanted to root for Ruby because that was my birth stone, and she was the good guy. Also I did not bother to watch the "Stronger Than You" part, because one, I was creeped out by Garnet's Weird 3 Eyes (Uncanny Valley when you first saw it anyone?), and the fact that I kinda felt like it was more of the lines of a "Total Drama World Tour Song thing because reasons". I also grew out of songs in some cartoons (But not in the Total Drama Series and other examples). But the moment I realized after the next episode, she just became more funny as a result. After the "Jailbreak" Episode, she started to get more funny as a result of her trying not to be captured by the Gems.
I actually felt like Rooting for Peridot, even though she was the bad guy at that point. She had a personality I can relate to, and to be honest, I would probably run away if I was chased by the Gems. She also Hated the Gems, as for me, Steven and Garnet are annoying (Garnet and Steven Fans, Chill! It's just my Opinion! What would be the Point of your Splashing!?). Soon it became a theme where it was a Cat and Mouse Game, where every few episodes she would escape. When she finally was about to be Captured, I genuinely felt bad for her, because she had such a funny personality! I actually screamed at my iPhone "C'mon! Please Pull a Syndrome (From The Incredibles)!" because she had that thing where you could freeze a person or Object and move it around. This is what I thought she would do if she was finally about to get captured:
And then Throw them on the ground while escaping, or better yet, Freeze them while Flying! Why isn't that the case? She has like 1 Hand free for Freezing! Maybe it's because it was finally time for her to get captured and she probably would be labeled as a "Mary Sue" by the fans and hate her. I wouldn't hate her, because she's so funny! But alas, she got captured and gets sent to the Burning Room when she is just a teeny helpless gem. The thing is, Amethyst also throws her limb enhancers into the water, and I instantly label them off as a jerk, because she needs those! While my sudden hate from my 4th favorite gem starts to arise, I kept watching. When she gets released from her gem, She is cute (sorry Peridot, I can't resist the Kawaii!), chibi, and tiny. She became much better as a result, and when she screams "Where are my Limb Enhancers!?", I feel instantly sorry for her. Where does she fit into my Personality? Well, I hate being tiny/small. It's actually one of my fears, as you can easily get squished, or in this case, more vulnerable. Things you would be normally able to do when huge gets a lot more complicated and it sucks.
She also kinda acts like me when I would encounter Steven or heck, even the Gems, in real life...
It just finally feels like a "Me" Character. She is also chill sometimes too, in which I like that. You know Bill Cipher, that triangle who is chill but gets very ragey when things don't go his way (Like from That 1st Part of the Season 1 Gideon Episode to Weirdmageddon)? Well finally there's a character like that in Steven Universe, only less crazy.
What I didn't realize is that Peridot is getting a lot of Love from the Fanbase, possibly because she became cute and makes people laugh. Also Space Dorito, YES! Bill Cipher kinda looks like a Dorito, so it makes sense for the Fanbase to love Bill Cipher that much, not because he's a Dorito, but because he's so chill (And Ragey). She also hates Fusion as well, in which I like because most Fusions to me are weird and they make it like it's from the uncanny valley. It's a possibility she might fuse, but I want it to be cool, not uncanny. There will be an Episode coming called "Too Short to Ride", and it might pull a SpongeBob-Like Firey Fist of Pain Episode, but even better.
"SpongeBob You gotta see this!"
The only thing would be that Peridot is too Short to go on the "Firey Fist of Pain" Clone, so she's stuck riding "The Mitten" clone. Being made fun of, she tries to look for her Limb Enhancers. She then finds out they are in the Ocean, and tries to build a Submarine to find them. That would be the best episode ever! The Only differences would be that She is not scared of the "Fist of Pain" Clone Coaster, and when the "Glove World" clone closes in a few minutes, she comes back to ride the "Fist of Pain" Clone, only with her Limb Enhancers on. This makes it so she actually likes the Crystal Gems and doesn't run away from them. I hope this is what the Plot is for "Too Short To Ride", because if not, then I'm just going to consider it a filler episode.
The Verdict:
You know, if there was No Peridot or Ruby, I probably would've shoved this show off to the side as if it were just some lame Uncle Grandpa Clone (I'm Looking at you Cat Fingers!).
(I'm not going to show Steven as that creepy abomination, so don't ask!) I normally don't look at the show for it's Beauty, I look at it for it's plot, and most definitely, Characters. If I actually start laughing at it's jokes, I will actually start liking that show again. The thing is, if this ends up like Total Drama, where a main character is off the show for a long time because a reason (Like Elimination), I start to stop watching that particular show. But Total Drama knew how to reel you in, even if your favorite character is gone. I know people make fun of Total Drama as a bad Canadian Show, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine, so stop using Splash! It's not very effective on me! For Peridot's Intelligence, Naiveness, Funny Humor, and other qualities like me, It feels so satisfying that this character before was boring, but pulled it off so well that she was a fun character! You can be your Own Judge on how you like Peridot, so let me know in the comments below, and until next time, Peridot will push Steven off the Article!
