Hi! I'm GorgeousWeed and I've been making Minecraft skins for a little while and I wanted to show how I shade/color hair fit for girl skins, using Skincraft which is a very easy skin editor to use besides Skindex. Here is the link for Skincraft on Newgrounds: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/571250 Personally I recommend using it on Chrome zoomed in by 125%. It's easier to view this way.

After reading this, if there is anything you would like me to further discuss please leave a comment! I also take skin requests!

Note: This will be difficult for me to explain so do your best to understand!

The templates will be shown in the IMGUR gallery below so you can click through and understand what is happening and how your skin should look.

Navigation

When you arrive at Skincraft, click "New Skin" and then the blank player model. You'll be shown a screen that has a view of your skin that you can rotate with your mouse and change backgrounds (like you can do here on Planet Minecraft) with other options that are: Back to menu, export/save, show/hide selection, delete selection, and copy selection as well as new layer.

First, click "New Layer," then click "Custom," then a base head. Do not click jacket/hat head because your skin will not turn out the way you expected. After this you will be shown a screen of the head template you'll be using.

From top to bottom in one section, there are 8 pixels.

Pick a skin color you want, I'm doing a more realistic approach. I will make mine similar to my friend, so I will be using white, but you can use whatever you desire. Choose the color picker at the bottom To pick your color and you can use the slider under it to adjust its lightness and darkness. Then use the bucket to color the bottom four boxes and the top two but not the top corners.

Eyes

Eyes are the window to the soul. Girls have a little eyebrow/eyelash thing going on with their eyes, and I prefer black every time I do these eyebrow/eyelash things. For eyes, the colored part (your iris) can be any color you like, but I prefer the eyes to match the skin's outfit., and the very inner part of the eyes are white, so in all the eyes should be 2x2 pixels, it will be shown in the gallery.

Hair

Next, choose the darkest color of the hair and form a pattern on the template. The pattern is shown in the gallery. Then pick a slightly lighter color and put that new color directly under the previous color. What about the pixels at the bottom of the template that can't have anything under them, you say? Simply put the lighter color directly above the pixel. Lets name your colors based on their shade. The darkest color for the hair is dark which stands at pixels 1 and 8, then the next color is slightly less dark which stands at pixels 2 and 7, then after that is slightly SLIGHTLY less dark which stands at pixels 3 and 6.. Pixels 4 and 5 are the same color always, so they are like best friends. After you fill in these pixels, do the same thing for the pattern that isn't filled in except ever so slightly lighter. Fill in the rest of the base besides the unused sections and only halfway from top to bottom on the "Head Bottom" section. Use your color picker tool (not the color wheel) and your pencil when filling in the rest of the sections, and the eraser or undo button if you make a mistake. I suggest doing this at one section at a time.

Bangs

There are a couple ways to do bangs but I'll show provide photos of my favorite bangs and how to do them in the galley below, since they are difficult to explain. You can also find other tutorials on how to do bangs as well.
