How long will minecraft last?

I was watching a podcast when this subject came up, "how long will minecraft last"? This may or may not have came up in a conversation you have had with your friends at anytime but it really hit me at that moment that question came up. Minecraft has been around for a long time now, I'm seeing minecraft toys in shops now, it's amazing it really is, but it all has to come to an end eventually, right? Of course with the addition of mods in minecraft which can transform the game into practically anything you want whether you want to be a knight, mage or archer in an old medieval world, or captain of a ship... what the heck an airship even patrolling the skies from practically any enemy your heart desires, or one step further minecraft in space, right? The possiblities are endless in the sandbox game we call minecraft, so what will change? What will make you decide one day that you've had enough of minecraft? Will it be another game? I heard "everquest landmark" will be the next minecraft and honestly it looks really good and I will play it in the future, but I don't think it will replace minecraft, if anything it may potentially draw more people into thebuilding aspect of the game which in turn may actually draw more fans to minecraft, who knows? The future is uncertain.

I look around at other games to get an idea of how long some have stayed in the spotlight, the stand out one for me was world of warcraft which is still going strong at 10 years old, not to mention the first warcraft game was released in 1994 so the franchise itself is 20 years old!! So let's look at this and think to ourselves can minecraft last 10/20 years? Or better yet ask yourself, will YOU be playing minecraft in 10 to 20 years time? I would really love to hear your answers because I am honestly curious.

It depends how far mods can take it I tihnk, without mods I would probably still come back to it now and again, but it would eventually dwindle out. There's a chance that Minecraft goes beyond being just a game and more a type of media, media where people create not just in game structures but mods with infinite possibilities.

I think for Minecraft to die, something new would have to take it's place, something with the same limitless sandbox environment but to a larger extend and I don't mean in terms of realism, I like Minecraft for it's pixelated abstract of reality, for realism I can just go outside!

I hope Minecraft lives on long and true, but eventually, something will happen, eventually, be it another game or a massive overhaul of Minecraft basically making it a new game.

yh it is great at the moment but what more can they add with out making it super laggy. Mojang should focus on new games. I think it will only last 10 years at max
