Okay! So you've been hired on a server! Whether you are admin, mod, or builder most of these rules apply to you.

1. Have a good attitude.
Don't be a grump! No one wants to come on a server to a grouchy moderator that is getting ticked at every little thing. Be relaxed and think of how all the players and other staff members see you.

2. Be on often.
When I say this I don't mean you don't necessarily need to be on every day but it would be nice to be on at least once every 2 or 3 days. If you do have something coming up soon and won't be able to come on your server, make sure other staff members know so you don't worry anybody or stress anybody out.

3.Don't have favorites.
This is very important as many players can use the excuse "Well you like him more than me" during any argument. If you happen to like someone more than others or have ranked up on a server, making friends along the way, make sure you are treating every member fairly.

4.Know how to use basic plugin commands
The server you are on probably has many different plugins for you to learn and inform others about. You should know how to use these or at least be trying to learn about them for if you use them incorrectly the staff members, players, and owner could lose respect and trust for you.

5. Ask the owner first. ALWAYS.
Its fun to do things on the server for players and for your friends that are players but think before you do a favor for a player. Think about what defines favor and cheating and if your unsure about it ask the owner.

6.Don't lose your temper
There may be trolls on your server at some point. Most servers get them in their lifetime. But do not let them get to you. Make sure to keep your cool and take it at a calm advantage. Losing your cool would make lots of players and staff members lose their respect for you.

7. Be respectful.
I talk a lot about respect because it is very important in moderating and admining. It is what makes a lot of members think before they act and trust that they have a good person helping them out on the server. You must respect others view on things and others property. If you want to be respected you must first respect others. If you want respect you must also earn it.

8.Be friendly.
No one wants a closed off, guarded mod/admin. You want to be a nice moderator/admin that talks with others and lets members not be afraid to ask a question about the server or server plugins. It also makes members more comfortable on the server.

9.Be informed
If you hear about a new update in a plugin or a building project within the other staff members, find out about it and learn as much as you can. You don't ever want to be caught with a question you can't answer.

10.Pay attention
I think this is one of the most important rules as this is helpful in every rule listed. If you pay attention to what the owner says you will solve problems quicker. If you pay attention to reports from members you will ban hackers/griefers faster.

If you want to be a good staff member on a server, be the best one you can be. I've seen far too many incompetent staff members doing very poorly in helping a server. The best thing you can do is take problems and look at them through the members eyes. Be friendly and informed and then it will be pretty good from there. Thank you for reading and if you have anything to add to this list please note it in the comment section.

I can't really say anything other than thank you so much! Another staff member got into a fight with me and she got demoted, and I demoted myself to get a break. I needed good advice like this, so once again, thanks so much!
