This article will explain several things, including how to mob proof your home.
Below i will start the explanation, i will explain "Vanilla Minecraft" first.
Afterwards, i will explain "Tekkit Classic"
----------
Vanilla Minecraft
--------
1. Join Server, read rules, exit spawn.

2. Press F3, and look at your coordinates (Only pay attention to X and Z, the Y coordinate is how far above bedrock you are.) and write them down, or type them into a program like notepad.

3. If you are not into traveling, go about 500 from the outside of spawn, make yourself an underground home. If the server has protection, here are some commands you can type in if you cannot do /plugins to see what they have: "/WE" "/worldguard" "/f create NameHere".
Those are 3 main protection components to a server, /WE will tell you if the server has world edit. (Which most likely it will.)

4. If you don't mind exploring, go 2000-10,000 blocks from spawn, make yourself an underground home. I know from experience, TAKE ALL COAL POSSIBLE. Take ANY ore you find, even if you think you do not need it, you might need it.

5. "Server Rollbacks." If the server gets "griefer" really bad, the server will "Roll it Back." meaning they swap the map to a previous version, earlier saved. That would not overwrite what you have in your inventory. Put your most important items in your inventory before you log off for more than an hour. This also helps in case a "griefer" finds your home, and decides to take some little goodies.

I will update this in the future, but i have some server management things to do, so leave a comment telling me your opinion, hate comments may not be removed. (Comments will be removed if they are racist, sexist, or just extremely offensive to anyone.)
