So you're reading this blog, I assume, because you want to be staff.
Congratulations! You're a step into assuming responsibility. But I will warn you, if you use your newfound powers for evil I will destroy you and all your family.

You want to become a mod, or even admin. Well, everyone does, and your chances are pretty low. But with this blog, they (your chances) will skyrocket. As a disclaimer, this will not work AT ALL if you are rude, or abusing your powers.
Let's preemptively assume that you are a mod on a server. Well this might be news, but you're still balancing on the edge of bad news. One slip-up, and (depending on the owner) you can be deopped, demodded, or even banned. Once you are mod, you're not invincible.
What you don't do is abuse your powers. Yes, I know that you just want op. But if you don't do properly what your job as a moderator is, you won't be needed anymore. And that's bad news for you. I know it's great fun blowing things up with TNT, but that will get you banned pronto. You might be disappointed. I can see your face through the screen. I'm recording your reaction from the phone in your back pocket. "But I thought being op was about having fun!" you say. But it's not.
If you're ready to do your job, read on.

Find a new server. Servers that have been running for more than a few weeks are likely to have filled up with staff and take longer, or a very long time to accept moderators. Find something with two or three players on average, and says it's accepting staff.
Some servers require you to fill out a staff application form then join, where they will review you and see if they'll take you as a mod. That's the easy way in. To win this, you have to uz PRopr spelinG gramer an stuf! LoL if U tAk liek dis dey will nevah accept u n00b!!1 XD!!!1!
You have to talk like a proper nobleman, sometimes even calling people "good sir" can pay off. Also saying "hahah" seems more mature than "lol". You have to act like you're experienced, but do NOT say:
"Oh, I was applying for this other server and they wouldn't accept me so I left and came here."
"Oh, I'm just going around servers getting mod so I can help out."
"GIVE ME OP PLZ"

The problem with the first sentence implies that you're a server hopper and untrustworthy.
The second sentence says very clearly that you are a server hopper.
And I think you can figure out the third problem.

Second, do not minimod. This means that if you see someone grief, you don't go on a rant at them about how they are terrible people or anything. Just report them. I cannot stress this enough. Too often I get messages saying "OMG N00BHAXOR11 UR GRIFING THAT WAS SOMONES HOUS JEEZ IM TELLING THE OWNER"
This is what you should do: "/report N00BHAXOR11"
The first example causes flame wars, bans, mutes, and no chance to become a mod. The second makes you seem mature and controlled.

Have a good humour. Don't make fart jokes, or even worse, jokes that should be censored youknowwhatimean...

Get to know the admins! If you hang out with them, let them visit your house, go mining with them, then they'll like you. No matter what people tell you, they are always biased towards their friends. This doesn't mean don't be friends with other players, just surreptitiously help the admins that little bit more.
Asking to help, however, is a big no-no. Most owners will interpret that as saying "Hey, I want op." It might not seem that way, but "helping" is a codeword for "being an op".

If you don't follow these instructions, or do the opposite, then you are taking the stick that is your chance at being op and snapping it over your knee. Seriously. Don't break sticks.

So in short form (for the lazy ones),

WHAT TO DO:
Get to know the mods and admins
Join new servers
Go on every day!
Don't get impatient
Help out players, but don't minimod
Do your job as a mod
Have good and mature humour

WHAT NOT TO DO:
Get on and ask for op
Make a sloppy application
Don't ask to help, this is interpreted as asking for op

I'm sure you do know how to spell, you've probably just got used to spelling n txt speak. If you practice a bit, then it's really easy to seem like a good mod.

In that case your chances of becoming staff is quite low. It depends. Do they know you well? Do they trust you? If so, then your last chance is to ask politely. If not, you need to join another server.
