1. Do not ask for staff at any time(This will ruin and lower your chances)
2. Don't make your whole goal just to get staff(Play and when the time comes you might get staff)
3. Help new comers, make them feel welcome in the server(Perhaps give me a diamond tool or such)
4. Do not break any rules! Even if its the slightest thing such as breaking a torch, it could ruin your chances.
5. Build some cool structures, such as a town, or a mansion.
6. Don't try to harm others, Be nice and friendly.
7. Help promote the server(Youtube/Forums/Blogs)

A real server administrator trusts few, bans more. I've been playing with the same 5 or 6 guys since I started my server back in 1.7.3 - I don't recruit and Operators aren't handed out.
If you log into a server, follow the steps above and manage to get Operator status then don't expect it to be there next week.
Why does there need to be an end reward of "op status" for you to be a nice person?
