Hello everyone, id first like to say that while I'm fairly new to the site, i have much experience in Minecraft.

Today im going to be showing you how to create a basic farm. This setup is used to grow primarily Wheat, Melons, and Pumpkins- however could be used for flowers and cactus (if you replaced the dirt with sand) as well.

First things first, you need to gather your materials. Your going to need a hoe (any material will do), a bucket of water, and some seeds.

Before we go any further, i suggest placing a fence around the area you want to have your farm. This can keep unwanted mobs and animals out, as well as make it look much more organized. Add a gate to allow a way in and its time to start farming.

We are going to need to have a reservoir for water to sit in, so knock out some columns (1x1) and make it as long as you wish. Create more of these, making sure to skip a row of blocks every column.

After you have finished digging the irrigation, its time to fill it up with water! Simply empty your water bucket into each hole and your good to go.

Now its time to prepare the soil. Grab your hoe, and right click on each of the dirt patches on either side of the water. A minute or two after you've prepared the dirt for planting, you'll notice the color will change to a darker brown. This means that the ground is moist and ready to be seeded.

Picturepng

Grab your seeds (I'm using wheat here) and right click on each block that you prepared to farm on. It should place some seeds on the block, and before you know it you'll be growing!

At this point, all your farm really requires is time; however thanks to the ever useful BONE MEAL, you can speed up the time needed to grow your crop by 3. By placing bone meal on each seed, growing is expedited to the very last stage of growth. In other words, use bone meal.

Now simply add a few signs for aesthetics (and so you know which crop is which), and your done! Farms like this are not only useful, but a great looking item to any village or home.

Hope you guys enjoyed!actionviewCAtPicturepng Any feedback would be much appreciated, and if anyone would like another tutorial just let me know!

Another method; Water actually effects 2 tiles away from it. You could make a 5x5 square, with water in the center, and the rest filled with the crop of your choosing. I prefer this method, but I use your method pretty often when space is not of the essence.

Water can hydrate farmland blocks that are farther than 2 blocks away from it. I think it can hydrate up to 4 blocks away. Maybe even farther...
