Just want to say i will make some videos to explain how to do this if you want. if you want me to just leave a comment.

PC
1. Gather the items you wish to duplicate and have them in your inventory.
2. throw all the items you with to duplicate out of your inventory - so they should be hovering on the floor in front of you
3.hit the Esc key, and wait for the little message in the bottom left corner to disappear- the message should read "saving level"
4. then click Save and quit- this should take you back to the homepage
5. go back on the world where you droped your items and pick them back up
6.now hit Esc again and wait for the "saving level" to go then click on the red X or the red circle if you use mac to close the minecraft- Note: do not save the game like you would normally.
7. restart your minecraft and go back onto the world save and you should of successfully duplicated the items :D

so 1.3.1 is here :D with loads more things added and bugs fixed. but i picked up on something... you can now host a local server in a selected world. so if you can make a server then you can use server commands
e.g /gamemode 1 which changes the game to creative and /gamemode 0 (changes backs survival). so there is no real need for mods and duping any more. ( this is not actually a glitch or anything special just through id flag it up in case anyone else didn't know :D)
Xbox 360 edition
after the last's patch the dispencer glitch and furnace glitch was patched and so does not work any longer
But i am glad to say i have another way if need be.
What you will need:
1 person, (you)
so what you need to do...:
1. Start a survival world, or load up an existing one.
2. Save and exit the game
3. Go back to open up the world, but change the game mode to creative
4. Then boot up the world and spawn in the items that you would like to gain.
5. And there you have it :D
XBOX360 version Solo duplication
I know this really isn't a glitch but it is also works as a sort of cheat, i would add that you will not be able to gain achievements after you have done this.
