Hello guys, this is Terrab1ter4 with a small tutorial on how to find Awesome Minecraft Seeds.

First off:
What is a seed? A seed is a piece of numbers used by the world generator to generate a world. If you don't give a seed, a random one will be used. Inserting the same seed twice results in two identical worlds (leaving out the mobs).

So, how do you get cool seeds then? Is there a trick?

Well, not really. Awesome seeds are found by randomly typing in a seeds. For newbies on seed-seeking:

First off you wanna create a new awesome world :D.


Then you click 'More World Options'. You will enter a different menu now.


Lastly, you enter a RANDOM seed in the World Generator. Then load the world, just fly around a bit, to see if it's worth keeping, then write down the seed. Post it on the forums here, as we PMC addicts like to have cool seeds too! If it's a boring seed, never forget to dig down. Who knows if there is a stronghold generated below, or a diamond shaft. That's also cool. Village seeds are also very wanted.

But what do you enter? What can you enter?
Well. Everything.
You can enter this:
-2034324328738940327498230489732049873248097 (random code)

Or this:
Herobrineisgoingtogeeeetyou

Words will also work, BUT: they will be translated as numbers I think, because if you generate the map and type /seed you might get numbers instead of the Herobrine thing. But typing in Herobrineisgoingtogeeeetyou will always generate the same map (without Herobrine (you hope (or not))).

But are there tricks to do it?
Yep.
I noticed that the pieces of text that appear in the start menu, the once in the right top corner, can be used as seed too. And they mostly generate cool things. Also, for one reason the seeds that don't make any sense like stackedpickaxe (you can't stack a pickaxe in vanilla) or coaltools (there are no coal tools in vanilla) will generate strange maps, but this is not a constant factor! (I just had noticed that when I was seed-seeking).
Btw, I don't know if these seeds still generate cool maps, I tried them out during 1.2 (I thought).

So what is the use of this?
Not really anything :P. You can just let the world generator choose a random seed and generate a world with it. But writing your own usually generates the coolest worlds. And people like cool worlds. Who doesn't want an Aether-like flying island where you can build your house on? Or build cool projects for creative, without having the need to terraform a lot. So you contribute to the community, and it's so simple :D.
