DISCLAIMER: This is a blog that displays MY point-of-view; I am not saying that this blog is the ACTUAL right way.

I have been tired of seeing people post forum topics about applications to get to be an op on Minecraft servers, and seeing that the topics get 20+ comments of people (from age 11-30) who applied. I have experience with getting to be an op (and giving it), so I will be sharing with you how to get op: The REAL Way. (Be aware that every server is different, and that my blog might not be 100% accurate)

1. Start Out With a Good Start

I administrate a server myself, and I notice this too often to leave it out. Start out with a good reputation. Greet the people that welcome you (if anyone does) when you first join. Dono t be completely silent and wait for the staff to magically give you permissions.

GOOD Example

Random0_ joins RandomCraft for the first time. He reads every sign the spawn has to offer, while happily chatting with the welcome committee. He knows what heo s doing on the server, and the admins see that as op-worthy material.

BAD Example

Random0_ joins RandomCraft for the first time. He skips the huge tutorial the staff made so the players know what to do on the server. He doesno t say o Helloo to the people who welcome him or ask for permissions. During his time on the server, he asks a bunch of questions that the spawn tutorial would have answered for him. The admins see him as a bad listener, and make sure he does not even get close to op.

2. READ THE RULES:

The ONLY real reason why servers ban players is for breaking the rules. People think that since each server has the same general idea for rules, they can skip them. THE RULES ARE WHAT KEEP YOU ON THE SERVER. Whether theyo re unique, or the same as every other server, you NEED to read them.

GOOD Example

Random0_ reads every rule sign / reads the rulebook at the RandomCraft spawn point. Because he knows the rules, he avoids risky situations. He knows whato s wrong and whato s right. The lack of correction the staff gives to him shows that he is op-worthy material.

BAD Example

Random0_ joins RandomCraft for the first time. He skips reading the rules, which are unique to the server. He gets himself into situations he could have avoided, and eventually the staff gets tired of him. He gets banned.

3. Get To Know Your Staff

The staff of a server sacrifices hours upon hours of their free time to make the server enjoyable for the players. Ito s a good thing to get to know them. Keep things cheerful with the staff, so when you get in a risky situation, they will understand that it could have been an accident or a one-time thing. The staff likes active people who form bonds with the community.

GOOD Example

Random0_ greets the staff every time they log onto the server, as well as the other players. He uses a respectful tone, as it is in the rules to be respectful, when speaking to them. The staff sees that he would most likely act the same to others when he is an op.

BAD Example

Random0_ is totally silent when the staff logs on. He only talks when he has to, and barely speaks a full sentence when he does talk. The staff considers this suspicious behavior, and dono t want to trust him with op permissions.

4. Be Active

In order to get op, you need to sacrifice A LOT of your time. True dedication is when you turn down other plans to get the job done. Io m not saying dono t talk to a human in person until you get op, but be willing to sacrifice your free time for the server. You need to be active because the staff is active. They want someone to be active as they are before they promote to op.

GOOD Example

Random0_ has been playing on RandomCraft for some time now. He has been very active, spending tons of time playing. The staff sees that he is active, and start giving him promotions.

BAD Example

Random0_ has been playing on RandomCraft, but in short bursts of activity. The staff assumes that if they promote him, he will do the same as an op, barely help the server grow. He remains at his current rank until he becomes more active.

5. DO NOT ASK FOR A HIGHER RANK OR OP!!!!!

Asking for a higher rank on a server DESTROYS your chances of getting it. Some servers even consider you never to be promoted for asking. One could follow every tip I give them in this blog, ask for op, and NEVER be promoted on that server again. The staff knows that everyone wants to be an op; so professing it out in the open will ruin your chances.

GOOD Example

Random0_ is DYING to be an op on RandomCraft. He follows the rules, is active, and helps everyone out. The staff sees that he is trying to get op, and start making it easier for him to get there.

BAD Example

Random0_ asks for op the MOMENT he joins RandomCraft. His chances for it are ruined, and he is banned instantly for breaking rule 1: DO NOT EVER ask for op.

6. Help People Out

There are people who read the rules, but still have questions for the staff to answer. If the staff isno t there, you can help them! Dono t be reserved on a server. Staff members like outgoing, helpful people who want people to know what to do. REMEMBER: Dono t steal the staffo s business! If theyo re on, let them do it. They can get annoyed if you butt in all the time

GOOD Example

Random0_ tries to help everyone he can with their questions when the staff is AFK/isno t on. The staff appreciates his helpfulness when they cano t be there, and give him a staff position to enhance his helping abilities.

BAD Example

Random0_ stays silent when he plays on RandomCraft. When the staff asks him questions, it takes 5 minutes for an answer. They tell him to stop being so reserved, so he does. He starts being helpful; too helpful. He butts into situations that a staff member has already taken care of, and angers the staff. He lowers his chances of op.

7. Offer To Help The Staff

Sometimes the staff wants to build something to show off on their server post/website, but theyo re terrible builders and need some help. Offer your skills for them to use. If they see that you want to help them, they will remember you when they need some promotions.

GOOD Example

Random0_ sees that the RandomCraft staff is having trouble with building a new spawn that fits an oriental theme. That is his best type of building skill, and he quickly tells the staff that he can make it for them if they want. They agree, he builds a wonderful spawn, and gets promoted.

BAD Example

Random0_ sees that the RandomCraft staff is having trouble to make a Command Library. He makes fun of the staff for their lack of building skills. He is banned instantly for disrespecting the staff.

8. Be Respectful

This might be the 3rd most important bullet point. Respect is what gives you MAJOR points on a server. A disrespectful person will eventually get banned. No questions asked. The staff is respectful, and when they need more staff members, they want a respectful person.

GOOD Example

Random0_ treats everyone as if they were his parents. He gives all the respect he has to the members of the server and staff. Eventually, the staff returns the respect by giving him op.

BAD Example

Random0_ is The Most Disrespectful person that RandomCraft has ever seen. After about 2 days of constant jeers and disrespectful actions, he is banned for life.

REMEMBER

On some servers you may never get op. This is because servers generally choose new ops from the low staff ranks they have (e.g. an admin leaves, so the owner promotes a mod). The quickest way to get op is to join a rapidly growing server. Since they are growing so fast, they need ops.

And that, my friends, is my interpretation of how to get op on a server: The REAL Way,

Thank you so much for the popular reel!

I did myself become OP on a server. So here's the way I got OP (even if I wasn't looking for this at all):

-Being friendly with all the peoples, speaking with them, giving advice, playing with them
-Being active on the forum (active is different from flooding), suggest idea that can add some good features on the server
-Speaking with the others player/administrator on skype/ts3/mumble. Very important to well know other people on the server.
-Building beautiful things on the server, participating to events
-Then, when the server pleased me, I said to the administrator that if he needs help, I would be here. 1 mounth later, I became ruler of a city, and also mod.
-Mounths later I became administrator

The best way to not becoming OP:
-asking for it
-sucking admins
-not being active on the forum/vocal/server
-being silent

So I support this post. You say the truth about that.

As a server owner that has experienced these types of people, both good and bad, I support this post.
