This is completely legit. There are no mods used, or anything but the classical Minecraft codes.
You can give yourself extra hearts depending on the potion effect level. Lemme demonstrate
I'll be telling you why its important, and what to set for your customizable HP!
The Command is /effect (player name) 21 100 127

Quite important to use the command
/effect (player name) 21 100 127
^
Who ya gonna give dem hearts to?
/effect (player name) 21 100 127
^
Potion ID... Gotta give yourself the right effect!
/effect (player name) 21 100 127
^
Time of potion effect. Set it to a very high number to make the effect infinite.
/effect (player name) 21 100 127

Potion level. This is what determines how many hearts you get. The higher, the more. You can't go past the number 127 though! I'm warning you! (Of course your gonna do it... BUT I WARNED YOU.)
So basically, now you know how to create your own command! BUT keep the /effect, and the 21 the same. Customize the rest!
Type /effect (player name) 21 100000 127
Then do /effect (player name) 22 100000 127
Then do /effect (player name) 8 10 127
Press enter after all of those. After the last one though, press space. You'll also need this command:
/effect (player name) 11 100 127
Type that before entering the last one above!
