There are five steps in building a minecraft house:

1.) PLAN OUT BUILD
2.) BUILD FRAME
3.) BUILD WALLS
4.) BUILD ROOF
5.) DECORATE OUTSIDE

1.) PLAN OUT BUILD
When you plan what your house is going to look like always start by placing any log type as the base of a frame around where your house will be. Place the logs in the shape you want your house to be.
For Modern Houses Just Build Rectangles and Boxes

2.) BUILD UP THE FRAME
For this step you will have raise up your log choice to your desired height. Then build across to the different log pillars. For modern houses build up into different box sizes.

3.) BUILD THE WALLS
Now that you have built up your frame you can now put in your walls. Make sure to build in depth and detail using slabs, stairs, and other blocks. Be sure you wall is consistent but still not too repetitive.

TIP: When building modern houses use ice in place of glass!

4.) THE ROOF
The roof is sometimes the most difficult part of a house to build.
Different houses should have different types of roofs. This list will show different roofs and their uses. But be creative and feel free to customize and make the roof look like what ever you want.

5.) OUTSIDE DECORATIONS
Now that you have finished your house decorate it by building trees and ponds to finish off the build.
