Hey PMC user! Want to better your Minecraft experience? Tired of monsters and players catching you constantly? Tired of monsters and players getting away from you? Want to work more efficiently, or sprint in a boat?! Well look no further than this simple change in keyboard configuration to make your life a breeze!
I've been playing around with this new configuration for a while now, and found that it is probably the best way to set up your controls for Minecraft. I decided I was getting really tired of double-tapping 'W' to sprint, as it created wobbles (despite the 'fixes'), took too much time, and was just outright annoying. I popped into the controls setting in the game one day, and here's what I came up with; the following keys are the only ones I changed:
Gameplay:
Sprint = L Shift
Movement:
Crouch/Sneak = L Ctrl
Inventory:
Inventory 1 = `
Inventory 2 = 1
Inventory 3 = 2
Inventory 4 = 3
Inventory 5 = 4
Inventory 6 = 5
Inventory 7 = R
Inventory 8 = F
Inventory 9 = C
Shift is the most important change to the layout. You don't need to hold shift while you're sprinting. It allows you to sprint forward while in the air; if you jump, and then use W+L Shift, you can sprint while falling (this is particularly useful for jumps off of large cliffs where the target is a body of water). Shifting in boats, minecarts and on horses is also an option, but I'm speculative as to whether it has any effect or not. You can also 'sprint' while swimming without having to have ground below you, simply swim forward at the surface, and hit L Shift. It's that simple!
Those three configurations make it so your hand need not travel as far to reach certain items in your inventory.
Also, I have linked to this blog a YouTube video explaining how I did this, and why it's useful. So go on and check it out if you're interested!
There are lots of keyboard configurations out there, and are useful for many different things. I figured I'd share this blog, as I have seen many Minecraft users still double-tapping 'W' to sprint, which as explained in the video, in comparison to using L Shift is uncomfortable, unreliable, and downright inefficient.
Happy crafting!
Best,
