I have recently discovered another VERY helpful method for improving minecrafts running speed.
I have tried razor and a couple other "Game Boosters" and none helped. I normally averaged around 18 - 24 FPS average playing no mods. I was desperately looking for a gamebooster and I stumbeled apon this: http://www.iobit.com/gameassistant.php
It is the only booster I have found that actually worked. Another thing I LOVE about it is instead of Enabling Boost Mode on your
computor. It just lets you launch the game and boost it. It also helps you utilize your RAM better for maximum gaming experience. I now average 35 - 60 FPS :). It makes minecraft run so well on my little laptop that it overheats unless I have a fan to cool it. XD

Also check out the other programs on the site. Some are very helpful for maintaining you computor.
