Try it again... I had to install my launcher at least five times before it worked properly.

is it possible to install it manually like with vanilla Minecraft? or will that cause problems?
and portal guns don't show up properly and they crash my game. :(

You have to install it manually... That's what the video is for. There might be a bug with the Portal guns.

I seem to get a horrid error when I have optifine installed with the FTB modpack, textures/skins constantly get glitched, such as helmets being invisible, or certain parts of textures not loading, or even things as weird as my skin being replaced with random textures, like the stages of wheat growth, etc.

Sounds like you downloaded the wrong version... What version did you get and did you follow the video exactly?

Nope, I only get black screen when doing this.
Can you put mods in the minecraft.jar for FTB like you can default minecraft, because there's one.
EDIT: I should slap myself, i found out you need the 1.4.2 one, not 1.4.5 xD
