Boring, factual, awkward, short, or ugly! Cliche, lame, hectic, long, or clumsy! If you’ve read the amateur interviews that dominate PMC, these are a few adjectives that might come to mind. Don’t get me wrong; interviewing is a hard thing to do, and getting advice for it is even harder. To help you out, I’ve compiled all the lessons I know. From my own experience and the advice of others, here’s a guide to make your interview easy, new, and interesting!
Starting by researching your subject prior to the interview. Not only will this prevent you from asking for answers to common knowledge, but it will give you an idea what mood to ask in (professional, casual, humorous). In other words, be a creepy stalker!

Starting off with small talk is never a bad idea. Though it is important to remain relevant, try not to stick to the questions like a quiz or survey. Feel free to chat about one subject before moving onto the next question. Most importantly, transition between topics, and keep your subject comfortable!

Amateurs tend to ask either too many questions or not enough; try to find the middle ground. You want to know more about the person without invading their privacy. Consider questions you might expect to be asked and avoid ones you wouldn’t want to answer. If you are uncertain whether or not a question is appropriate, play it safe and leave it out.

Keep your audience interested by starting off general and ending specific. Boring questions lead to a boring interview! No one is interested in dates and times (unless, of course, they are important for the person’s level of skill). Explore the questions fans want to know most, such as “How do you do it?!” Try asking for advice, inspiration, or experiences.

Graphics are the fail-proof way to making your interview engaging. Even if your content needs work, no one will care as much if you do a good job presenting it! Not very artistic? Try looking up other people’s methods. At the end, provide a link to your interviewee. :)

Summary:
Research your person beforehand. Start general and end specific. Transition between topics. Control interview length. Respect the person’s privacy. Use graphics!!

Questions For Getting Started
Here’s a collection of questions you could ask in an interview. These are for getting started, not for copy-pasting! You should be able to change them around a little or come up with your own (otherwise you’re a quiz-writing cheat). Although it isn’t necessary, it’s a good idea to have a main theme or focus for your interview.

Career
  • What motivates you? Passion or a hobby?
  • How would it be if you couldn’t ___ (skin, draw, moderate, etc)?
  • Is there a message you’re trying to get across?
  • What is most rewarding/makes you feel successful?
  • How long does it usually take? Any advice for people struggling with this?
  • Do you ever have those “ugh” moments?
  • Have you ever considered ____ (skinning, building, writing, etc)?
  • Maybe ask about a certain submission.
Personality
  • Favorite food, gamer, animal, movie, youtuber, music, etc?
  • Do you have any siblings (and what are they to you)?
  • Are you an introvert or extrovert?
  • Outside PMC, what are your hobbies?
  • Do you have any role models (or who inspires you)?
  • How do you like your balance of danger, adventure, and peace?
Minecraft
  • What do you like most about minecraft?
  • How do you like to play? Are you a “noob”?
  • How often do you play on average?
  • What would you add or remove from minecraft?
  • Scale of 1-10, how would you rate minecraft?
  • What is your favorite Minecraft version/update?
For Fun
  • Random and fun (eg, What three items would you want while stuck on an island?)
  • Have you ever been interviewed before?
  • Where did you get your ____ (username, style, etc)?
  • Do you "have a life"?
  • Mwahaha, any last words?
CreditI'm not going to pretend I'm a professional! My interviews still have a long way to go. ^u^

Interviews would be more interesting if I actually knew some of the people getting interviewed. Most of the times when I look in the interviews section, it's like "who are these people, Am I living under a rock, or are people just running out of members to interview?"
