I have been asked numerous times how it is that I make skins. Someone requested that I make a Zeo Abyss skin, and I decided why not make a tutorial to go with it?
STEP ONE
One of the most controversial subjects is what program to use for skin making. If you're serious about making skins, you may want to read this very detailed and informative review. I recommend using Skin Edit and that is what will be used for this tutorial. So, download and install Skin Edit to begin. (On an un-related note, if you have problems with the installation, then PM me or comment below, and I'll try to help.)
Skin Edit looks like this:
STEP TWO
This is almost always the longest part of making a skin. What are you doing here? You're creating the base of the skin, you're choosing colors and adding small details. This is what you'll have to go on for the next two steps.
Using this:
I managed to come up with this:
STEP THREE
This is where some color correcting comes in. Almost always, the first time is not going to produce the proper colors.
Using this:
I managed to do this:
There is a very small difference, but every detail counts, in my opinion.
STEP FOUR
Now comes the shading, you may not get the hang of this right away (I sure didn't) but shading can be a vital part of your skin. If it's too flat, people will not care for you skins. Please note that when I say "shaded" I do not mean add a lot of pixels. Adding a lot of pixels to your skin (I.E. the "add noise" function) can, at times, look good, but most of the time it will look like a skin was made, and then several different colors were scribbled in. That is not the same thing as shading.
This is what I did:
Did you notice the "Tia" up there? That is in a part of the skin that will not show up in game. It is my signature and is used to try and stop people from stealing my work.
I hope this brief tutorial helped you :D!
Also, you can download the Zeo Abyss skin here.
