Hello, my name is Steve. Anyway, I am going to teach you how to mine safely. You see, I myself was just mining but I happened to fall off the edge of a ridge. Enough about me though, I have to tell you how to safely mine!
Sadly, alot of people have died from caving, or mining as some people call it. Their death is usually from the following: Falling from high points, burning to death from lava, starvation, and from mobs. Falling from high points to your death mainly happen to clumsy people and when there is a water flow pushing you off the edge. Burning to death from lava is mainly caused when you are mining down and are mining near lava.
The last two are caused from not being prepared. When mining you should always bring some sort of wepon and armor. You NEED to bring food or else you will die from starvation. You also need to bring a pickaxe or else there is no point to risk your life to get minerals.
When I go mining I always bring a stack of steak, 1 iron and diamond pickaxe with unbreaking 2, iron gear, a bucket of water, and three non-filled buckets. I bring alot because I want to be really safe... I wonder how I fell off that ledge. ..... OH! I almost forgot, you need to bring either torches or night vision potions. And ladders to get to high places.
When mining you NEVER dig down 'cuz you could dig into lava! You should do what Hansel and Gretel did and leave something on the ground so you can find your way back to the suface when your done mining. Like I said before, mobs, such as Creepers, Skeletons, Zombies, and Spiders, will spawn and try to kill you. Thats why you need wepons and armor.
I think I'm running out of ink. Please write in this book what your name is. It will allow me to live on 'cuz I'll be dead before anyone else picks up this book. Tell my children I love them! This is Steve signing off for the last time...

Short but some nice simple writing in it. I especially like the passage about 'Hansel and Gretel' as that is the way I do it to.
Anyway good luck with the contest although you're competition!
