You see, I like to make skins. I’m not very good at it, but I still like having something personal to display to the world. It seems that a lot of people agree with me, so a lot of people make personal skins. However, time and time again, I see people who have literally the same thing. Or, people’s skins are so naughty that if my mother walked in she would cry. So if you want to make your own skin for your own use, here are some tips.

• Hoodies, chains, headphones, checkers, snapbacks, neon, and bandanas are a no-no (with obvious exceptions)
  
• Go on really popular servers and look at other people’s skins. If you see a general pattern, stay away from that pattern
  
• I know medieval is cool, but it’s done a lot. Use other periods in time (WWII, American Civil War) for inspiration
  
• It’s ok to use video game characters, but stay away from really popular ones (Mario, Cod), and use video games that you really like that aren’t fads
  
• Detail is nice, but don’t break your back over it. If people say your skin sucks, they’re lame. You made it yourself, so it’s good enough for you
  
• Using a YouTube personality who isn’t you is also bad
  
• Important yet obscure historical people (William Tecumseh Sherman) are good, but not too obscure
  
• Using Minecraft mobs for a Minecraft skin are usually bad as well
  
• You don’t need to be too flashy. You can use someone fairly plain like a park ranger if you want, or maybe an artist. Something that reflects you is always a winner.
  
• Keep your skin PG. Please. PLEASE.
  
• Movies, TV shows, and books (especially books) are wonderful inspiration
  
• Make sure your skin isn’t offensive. It’s just not nice
  
• Celebrities are OK, as long as no-one else is doing that (something more personal is always nicer though)
  
• Most importantly though, this is YOUR SKIN. Do whatever you want. You can do the exact opposite of what I’ve said, I don’t care. You’re the boss here. Don’t let anyone say otherwise
