A Minecraft server allows you to create and customise a Minecraft world that other players can join. It is possible to add plugins to customise any part of the server and create minigames, custom server types/events and more.

To create a Minecraft server, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a server host such as Shockbyte: https://shockbyte.com/
  2. You will now need to choose a plan size. Your choice here will be based on the amount of RAM you need, which varies depending on the amount of players, plugins and worlds you want.Generally, a good rule of thumb is 1GB of RAM for every 20 players. Here is a guide that goes further in-depth: https://shockbyte.com/billing/knowledgebase/28/How-much-RAM-do-I-need-for-my-Minecraft-server.html
  3. Now that you have chosen a plan, you can complete your order and then login to the control panel with the details that are provided.
  4. Once logged into the server control panel, select the server version you wish to use. The most popular is Spigot, so I recommend choosing the latest version of Spigot.
  5. Click "Start" and your server will start up.

You can now connect to the server in-game using the server address provided to you by your server host. Just be sure you're connecting with the correct version of Minecraft on your computer.

If you wish to install plugins, you can download them from the Spigot website: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/
