Hey guys! This is an in-depth, step-by-step tutorial for how to survive the first night for all you Minecraft beginners. I hope you find this helpful and useful until you get familiar with Minecraft and such. So let's get started!

1. Find a good spot to start a shelter:

This is the most important part of surviving your first night. You need to find a nice, clear place near some wood. Wood is essential in surviving, as said in the next step, so it is important that you try as hard as you can to find it. Next to a cave would be good too, as you can find resources easier. NPC villages are a bonus as well.

2. Get resources:

This is also quite important. you need to get this for TOOLS AND BUILDING MATERIALS. The best thing you can do first is chop down 3 logs, make them in to planks, make a workbench, some sticks, and then an axe. This will help you chop down trees faster. Get about 20-25 more logs and then make them in to planks. Then you can make a small wooden house and a door. make the rest of your tools, (sword, pick, shovel, and a hoe if you plan on farming). You also want to keep some logs for charcoal in case you can't find any coal for torches.

3. If you have time...

Here are some things you should do if you have a little bit of daylight left:

-Go caving: This can be incredibly useful in finding coal and maybe some iron if you are lucky. Make sure you don't go too deep, as it could be fatal. It is also necessary to get stone so you can make stone tools and a furnace. Make sure to watch out for mobs who can spawn in the dark areas.

-Collect more wood: This can be really helpful in making a floor for your home, making charcoal, or making more tools and things. Chests are useful as well.

-Get food: Kill some cows, pigs, and chickens for food. This is very important if your on easy or hard, because your food actually goes down, and you will starve to a half a heart, which means even a little fall will kill you.

-Get wool: Killing 3 sheep or so should get you enough wool to make a bed, which can be incredibly useful in surviving your first night. Sleep right through it! Sheep can sometimes be hard to find though, so don't try too hard.

4. Tips and Tricks

Here are some VITAL tips and tricks you can use to also help survive:

-Don't try to make your house pretty: All you need is a nice wood box to chill in while the night goes by. If you spend too much time on making a big, nice house, it may not be finished by the time night rolls around. Don't worry, you'll have time to make a good house soon, but after you've gotten used to Minecraft.

-Watch out for "Day Mobs": Things like creepers and enderman will spawn in the daytime, so be careful while exploring and building. I can't even count the times my builds have been destroyed by creepers who sneak up behind me. Be careful!

-If there are no sheep around, build close to spawn: Let's face it. You are gonna die a few times. There's no way around it. But you can make it easier on yourself if you build your starting shelter near the spawn point, so if you do die, you won't have to go very far. This can be very useful, especially since your items despawn after 5 minutes. it's not a fun feeling when you know all of your items are gone.

-Have fun: Yeah yeah, I know, it's pretty cheesy. But seriously. Minecraft is a game, not something your life depends on. Don't worry if you die, or lose all your items. just start over and try to fix your mistakes. It is a really fun game if you don't take it seriously enough to throw your computer out the window if you die and lose a diamond.

That's my tutorial! I hope you find this helpful in surviving your first night in Minecraft. Feel free to comment to ask questions or just give me feedback. it is always welcome. Thanks!
