Adventure maps have been amonst Minecraft since its very beginnings, whereas before they may have used plain old signs to show story, it has progressed all the way to custom text and items, all without any mods. But still, more progression could be made and here are some things I think we could benefit from having. These dont have to all be mine, I am very open to add any other *decent* suggestions people have, because we are a community! If you could share these to Mojang, that would be great!
Additions to Current Commands
Give/Summon Colored Item/Mob Names - This has been wanted for a long time, and I think we could really use it! Map makers always have to use third-party mods (like NBT Edit and or MCEdit) to have custom colored anything like mobs or items, I think it would save a lot of time and work for map makers if we had this at our fingertips without even exiting Minecraft!
Clone To Exact Coordinates + Clone Rotation - For me I've always found the clone command to be a little tougher to use than just MCEditing, plus MCEdit has what the clone command doesn't, rotation, so I was thinking maybe they should add cloning to exact coordinates by putting /clone [x] [y] [z] [x1] [x2] [x3] [coordinates of corners of cloned structure] [rotation] \ this will make it easier to exactly get your clones into position plus rotating them if you have or want to.
Clone/Fill/Setblock Anywhere - People with large scale maps will have encountered the "Cannot place block outside of world" bug (if it IS a bug) when using the Clone/Fill/Setblock commands out of range of the targeted block(s). I was thinking maybe they could add it so that if you use the command out of range of the targeted block(s) it will still attempt to place the blocks unless they are ACTUALLY outside of the world (e.g at y=257 blocks or y=-302 blocks). This would be a great alternative for if the Chunk Loader (See Blocks > Chunk Loader for more) were to not be added or welcome.

Blocks/Entities
Clock - This block will be just like a fill/setblock clock command except its in the compactness of one block, and can execute 20 times/sec like the fastest clocks. It will also produce less lag than the normal clocks like fill or setblocks.
Carpeted Stair Blocks - Logstoneable did a video on this showing how to make carpeted stair blocks with command blocks. I am not sure if it works anymore but point is carpeted stair blocks look very nice and they should be implemented so that mapmakers don't have to go through a hastle to make their stairs look decent, although it would have to have a lot of variations because there are about 4+ stair types and 16 colors of wool so thats already 1820 combinations you can get from variants of stair + wool. A workaround to this is to not have these in the creative tab and instead have the player using /give [player] [block type of stair]stairs_carpeted [DataValue] and ultimately look something like /give zOmBiLoRd stone_brick_stairs_carpeted 14. and give me a red carpeted stone brick stair in the end.
Chunk Loader - Simplysarc did a video on how to make a chunkloader using simple hopper tricks, but it is very complicated and tricky for just keeping a few chunks loaded! I think the Chunk Loader block would be a very great addition, it's use is to place it anywhere in a chunk (like in SimplySarc's video) and it will keep the chunk loaded at all times! You could also be able to set if it loads chunks near the selected chunk (1-3 chunk radius, etc.) This is a great way to stop the "Cannot place block outside of world" bug (if it IS a bug) with clone/fill/setblock commands.
Custom Blocks - We map makers should be able to add custom blocks to our maps, similar to the way we have custom sounds (using sounds.json). This would allow us to have full range of blocks without having to go in and change block's current textures that we might need later. Using a blocks.json file we could be able to have our own custom blocks (for aesthetic purposes only)
Invulnerable Boats - Boats as they are now will always be destroyed if they hit a surface straight on, but making the invulnerable tag make boats indestructable when crashing would be a nice addition for maps on water with boats (of course)

New Commands
/stopsound [sound] - This is a new command but basically, the use is if you are using a custom resource packs with sounds that are long (like 1-2+ minutes). If you play a sound and you want to stop it after it's already started (in case you, say beat a boss and want the epic music to stop playing) then you can use /stopsound [sound] which will stop whatever sound you specifiied. For example, my boss music runs a little longer than intended, I've already beaten the boss. Easy fix! /stopsound custom.boss1 and voila!
/showchunks {true/false} [Show Only Spawn Chunks true/false] - If /showchunks is true, it will show you thin outlines of all the chunk boundaries in your map (only shows chunks within view of your selected view distance), similar to MCEdit's chunk viewer except it doesn't view chunks from 9001 blocks away. The usage would be /showchunks true - and then all chunks in your view distance would be shown. This is to help map makers see where chunks are located, start and end. The usage for the Show Spawn Chunks tag would be /showchunks true true - and only the Spawn Chunks are visible and thinly outlined in green.
/spawnchunks - Finds the map's spawn chunks and teleports you to a random area within them.

If you have any ideas you want to share then please do in the comments, I want any good ideas to be added to 1.9 to help out us mapmakers make maps more easily. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed my and other's ideas! As always, don't forget to...

You mean write?
But still, we need an actual block of it so we dont have to do stuff like that!
