Idiocy or smart tactics?

I recently found myself playing on a server, and one of the buycraft packages available was a high grade pickaxe above natural enchantment levels for approx. $83.60 AUD. I had a lot of spare cash, so I bought it, seeing it as an opportunity to be rich beyond my wildest dreams. I used it a LOT, and became the richest on the server.

After about four months with that server, I returned to my old clan.

The clan owner asked me, "Why won't anyone donate" (Thinking back now, it was obviously not meant to be answered). I showed him the other server's buycraft page, and he was shocked. Together, we revamped the clan store.

One of the items added was an RPG world item for $10 AUD, which gave you an item of random quality (similar to that of World of Warcraft) with above normal enchants and runes and such. I found myself buying 8 of these... *facepalm*... I did recieve the first legendaries in the game on first try, and this lead me to buy more and more.

So many people bought the pickaxe on the other server, and so many people bought the random item and our new Worldedit/Voxelsniper access to creative world.

What is it with me, and others, that leads us to buy these things that have no real benefit to our lives, and are available to get ourselves? I find it strange that we can be moulded to buy these things. Maybe this really IS a smart tactic for players to buy things... Or maybe I'm gullible... Whatever the case may be, try this out on your server, or see if the store has something similar. This may very well be a good way to get the casheroons on servers, but also may be due to stupidity.
