The image you see up above is a render I made in about half an hour. If my computer had a faster CPU it would have taken 10 minutes. NOTE: the noise(out of place pixels on the water cup and the water cups reflection), is caused by a low sample rate. A high end computer could take that away instantly.

Taking a photo and then photoshopping some effects would have taken alot longer. 3D renders are a relativly quick, easy way to make complex images. I didn't even have to touch a compositor, node editor, or UV unwrap anything. It was made with blenders Cycles render system, the material for the water and the glass are the same, with a different IOR beteween them.

So.. Is this going to completely replace photography?

No. Creating a 3D render of a nature scene can be very time intensive. Creating images of real people impossible. There are alot of things 3D renders cannot do.

So why do we need 3D renders? Why not a 2D photoshop?

Perspective angles with 2d images is very difficult with photoshop.

Does getting started with rendering cost anything?

No. I use blender, a free modeling & rendering program.

Sorry if its kinda short, or if it kinda rambles on.. I just had to write a quick post about 3D renders.

If you would like me to post and art blog of my renders comment down below.
