War of the Servers. Most of you have probably heard of it before and or seen it before. Its a VERY well made machinima and to anyone who has not seen it, search it up on YouTube! Go, right now!
Anyway. Is something like this possible? The answer could be surprising...
#1: Is a band of hackers invading servers, possible? Surprisingly, yes.
Look back to 2014, there was a virus spreading THROUGH SERVERS. It was sort of the same type of scenario. Some servers just weren't safe to go on. It was a big deal! But hackers? Yes, that is also possible. There doesn't need to be any proof to this, as the reason the mingebags in the movie couldn't even be banned was because there were so many. So if there were a large enough amount of hackers the could potentialy invade servers and admins would have lots of problems with the amount coming on to servers. Yes you could ban them, but more an more would come into the server.
#2: Is a banning weapon possible?
As far as I know, this could be quite possible if one devoted enough time to LUA coding. They could very well make up a weapon that if killing you could ban you from at least the server. The only problem is getting this banning weapon ONTO servers. But hackers could just ban you out right I guess. As for completely banning you from steam? Thats a no on that. Steam does not run on LUA so... its pretty obvious it would have no effect on your steam account apart from your VAC record.
#3: Advanced server chat and travel.
In the movie we literally see planes flying from server to server. This could be possible I suppose. Although, it would be much different. You would have to to spawn the plane dupe back in everytime you joined a server. As for chat, Talking over radios is very very possible. WireMod has radios that allow you to chat over the server from far away without even using text chat. You could send a message through the radio and have someone respond right back to you!
#4: Final verdict?
Unfortunately, I give this an 8/10. This is a possible scenario. I mean, it would not be AS bad as the movie shows it would be. You would still have your steam account and everything. You would just be banned from that server. The reason I say unfortunately is I think this could happen if enough effort and planning was put into it. GMod servers might not be as safe as you think...
