"But Vanilla," I hear you cry, "Herobrine's not real!" Stop crying and I'll explain. Right, Herobrine is (probably) not real. Therefore, if you go by that, he can't be good or evil. All you boring people who go by that can just stop reading and go away. All you interesting people who're not sure can continue reading.
1. Why is Herobrine considered evil?
Theory One: "Because He killed Steve." Ah, I see, Herobrine (who is considered dead) killed Steve, who is alive. Much sense no make. Well, so much for Theory One.
Theory Two: "He died and came back to life evil." Why? "Ummm, because the undead are always bad?" How many times have you, the player, respawned? Well, so much for Theory Two.
2. What does Herobrine Do?
One thingy Herobrine is known for doing is "strip mining" which makes sense since he is often seen as a dead miner. Strip mining, obviously, isn't evil. Most of us have done it at some point or another in our Minecraft life. In a way this almost makes Herobrine even less evil, He's not stealing diamonds, he's mining for them, doing things in a legit way.
3. Mods vs Reality:
Mods (created by the Player) : Herobrine hunts the Player.
Reality (umm, created by reality?) : Herobrine simply stalks the Player.
Look at it this way: In "Herobrine sightings" Herobrine is described as following the Player, and vanishing when approached. As if he's a Player who is no longer alive, making no direct contact with anyone, as if he's watching the Player live the life he no longer has. Creepy? Definantly. Sad? Yes. Evil? No, not really.
See what I'm getting at? Everyone write Herobrine Stories based on Mods, not actual sightings. Why? Read his name, Herobrine. Hero . . . Heroes are good, yes? Why can't you write a story about Him as the Hero instead of the Villain? Anyway, that's about it. Nothing more to say, unless you think of something (*cough*, *cough*, comment) I hope I've changed your opinion, or maybe you just didn't read it at all. Bye :)

Is that weird? I don't know. Whatever.
I have, and always will see Herobrine as evil.
Anyway, yes I like the aspect of Herorbrine having a bit of a good side to him.
lol, sorry, I just had to say that
