Is PMC biased towards popularity?

There was a thread on the forums a few days ago so I thought I would make a personal opinion on it.

Although I do accept criticism I do not accept hatred/flame. Please keep this in mind when making comments.

I will go through both the forum and the site.

The Forum

Does a users forum post count affect whether or not you quote him/her? Does a threado s views/replies affect whether or not you decide to reply yourself? Although you may not notice yourself doing it, you still do it. I caught myself a few times looking at a users forum post count to see if its higher than mine or if its high enough to reply. Even if I try to not do this I do it anyways. Dono t get me wrong, I know there are some that dono t give two rato s you-know-what about forum posts or thread views, but I have seen my fair share of flame wars that start over, o Oh that user doesno t have *x* amount of forum postso or o That user just signed up *x* amount of days ago so he/she shouldno t reply to the threado . Then you get this big flame war over nothing really.

When I join new forums I am always sceptical about replying to threads since I have such a low post count and not a very big rep. Although this shouldno t matter, in some cases it does and when it does, it drives people away from the forum just because one person couldno t keep their thoughts to themselves.

Anyways, for the most part, things go pretty good with the forums, aside from the odd flamewar.

The Site

If you are an experienced member, how easy for you is it to get a pop reel submission? If you are more of a newer member, how hard is it for you to get a pop reel submission, or even one with a few views/diamonds? I believe that the amount of levels / subscribers a person has does affect how many views / diamonds or pop reel the user gets, which makes sense. The more popular you are the more people pay attention to you. Although there really isno t much wrong, too many people dono t spend enough time looking for the guys that have a good submission, but not enough rep to get noticed. Yes, I know. There are people who do look at all submissions regardless of the rep that they have, and I would call myself one of those people.

Now because the chat is technically part of the site, I am going to talk about that for a bit. I see the chat as being one of the most clear examples of how people are biased on popularity and the colour of their name. All the time I see people saying o Hio and then nobody replies to them. You try to start a conversation with anybody and nobody replies to you but they continue to concentrate on the people that they already know or the conversation that they are already engaged in. I have done this myself and I dono t like it when I do. It makes me feel like I am ignoring people and it is giving them a bad view of the site. PMC is supposed to be a community, a place to find new people to talk to or a new place to find a cool map to play on. But the chat sometimes makes it seem like everybody wants to stick with their friends and ignore everybody else. And yes, again, I know. There are many times when this is not the case, and there is lots of users that do try to make the new users feel welcome instead of ignoring them.

Conclusion

So in conclusion PMC is a very nice and well balanced out site. Much better than some of the sites/forums that I have seen. Every site has to have its downside does it not? Although most of you reading this probably dono t do any of the biased things that I have mentioned, it might give you a new look on PMC, or it might not. Either way, thanks for reading and please do leave criticisms/compliments in the comments. I shall read them with joy!

I think it is, because look at SkyDoesMinecraft. Sure his server might be good, but it's been down for like 4 months yet people are still voting for it and giving it diamonds.

I mean...
I agree with what you say, to a point. I think that post count and thread blablablabla (much terms) do matter in the Forums. I sometimes find myself judging based on post count and such.

Yet.
I think the site side of things is KINDA affected by popularity, but not as much as some people think. Subs kinda help, sure. But what does really control you popularity on PMC, and your success, is generally mastery of the chatroom.
Yes, people are ignored. But, it's not that hard to strike up a conversation. Proper and effective advertising in the chatroom is the real way to "popularity" on PMC.

Wow half of this doesn't even relate to your blog i dont even
