Traps!

What are traps?

Oh, come on. I know you know what traps are... *ahem*.. dictionary time!

"a device or enclosure designed to catch and retain animals, typically by allowing entry but not exit or by catching hold of a part of the body."

That is what the dictionary says. I'll rephrase it a bit for our Minecraft versions, shall I?

"A mechanism designed to capture or kill a player"

So, want to know a few great traps? Well, you're in the right place! Next section!

Designs

Unsuspicious cage

You can come in, but you can't come out!

Unsuspicious diamonds

This is another one of my favorites. Here's a picture.

Whenever you mine that diamond block at the top left, the TNT explodes.

Just going mining

This is one of the smartest traps I have ever seen. You are mining, when you see a diamond! You go to mine it, but then the floor disappears! It's a trap..
Image

How does this work? Don't worry, no command blocks involved! There are these pistons, you see...

Image

When the pistons aren't activated, these redstone torches send a signal to the dispenser..

Image

This dispenser drops an item of any kind, preferably cobblestone. However, it drops it into some water that drops it onto this wooden pressure plate... this wooden pressure plate keeps the pistons OFF. When someone enters the trap, they pick up the item through the wall and therefore takes the item off the pressure plate, which turns the pistons on. CREDIT TO WONUTT FOR MAKING THIS!

Just a bit of water

What's this? Diamonds?

Oh boy were you wrong! Credit to CaptainSparklez, his deathswap video had this in it.

Everlasting torment

Getting stuck in here would be everlasting torment for some people, like people who don't know key shortcuts. That way, they can't exit this trap... or the server.... or even talk! Whoever is in it has to be in gm 1, too. Maybe get essentials, disable fly, and jail them in there, while they are in creative.

Image

This loop down here activates a sticky piston that makes the log move. That way, when the log goes down or up, their menu/chat closes. Evil, right? Put those fake PMC staff members in them. Credit to 1b8 for making this!

Let's get some food!

Ow! Was I hit by an arrow?

Simple TNT

Low on materials? Not enough stuff to make these resource-intensive trap? Looking for an old classic, or even just trying to make a simple trap for people you dislike? Make this trap! Credit to jarfox.

So all you need for this one is a door, a pressure plate, and a block of TNT. Sound like a familiar trap? Well, people will think it was a harmless stone pressure plate. Guess who was wrong!

Inconspicuous trapped chest

First you make a 7x7x7 hole. You place a piston in the center, one below ground level.

Afterwards, you place signs everywhere so you can put sand on top of it. It must be dependant on the TNT, so don't place them on the walls.

Put sand on top of it.

Place sand on top of it again, and put a trapped chest on the center piece of sand. Once someone opens it, the tnt will move, causing the signs to break, and causing the sand to break.

Thanks, Legojedi73!

If you have any more suggestions, leave them in the comments! I'll be sure to add them.

I realize I am a bit late to this party, but none the l less, I have a simple and evil trap design to share.
First find a desert or beach, somewhere sandy. Then dig a pit that is about 7x7 blocs and has lava up 2 spaces from the bottom of the pit. Then place a piston in the center facing down one block below ground level. Place a piece of TNT underneath that and then a restone torch on a piece of stone one block below that. Attach signs to the piece ot TNT so that the entire pit has a layer of signs dependant on the TNT. Then place 2 layers of sand on top of the signs and a trapped chest on top of some sand above the piston.
It looks completely innocent, until you fall to your grizzly death. The TNT is to take care of anyone standing on top of the chest. who doesn't go down with the falling sand.

I know how to improve the first one! make it a bit bigger then add a trip-wire with a dispenser and arrows attached to booth ends right behind the pressure-plate! Then, when they bounce back from the dispenser & pressure plate, they get shot with an arrow!

I enjoyed this. c:

There's a simple trap that I know of by putting a pressure plate infront of a door and putting TNT under the pressure plate. The victim will think it is a harmless automatic door and get blown up when trying to pass through.
