y girlfriend Jo went away to study in Brighton, England (We live in Sweden, home of Minecraft). What better way to surprise her than by building a survival world for her and myself to live in once she returns? I set out to build a world where she would enjoy spending time and that reflects her personality. Before I went seed hunting for the perfect spawn, I decided on a set of rules:
- I will build in creative, but we'll play in survival. Pretty straight forward.
- I won't explore the map. I won't light up caves or leave the area around spawn. This makes exploration more fun both for her and myself once we finally get together and play.
- I won't give her any items except written books. I may however provide her with blocks you can place - furnaces, crafting tables, bookshelves and so on - with a few exceptions: melons, pumpkins and brewing stands, which are a fun challenge to find for herself.
- I will spoil her. I want this place to be hers. It will be full of things that she enjoys either in real life or in the game.
With these rules in mind, I started construction on the first building:
Jo Library
My girlfriend loves reading, so I wanted to build her a library where she can go to read poems I've written and will write in the future. The poems themselves are personal, so don't ask for samples. They are for her eyes only. Next to the library, I later decided to build a hedge maze, which you can see in this picture:
Jo Maze
The maze was really fun to build, and my goal was to make a tricky maze which wasn't spoiled even when viewed from the top of the library. By adding a third dimension to the path in the first part of the maze, I think I succeeded in doing just that.
Jo Villa
I built a traditional style wooden house complete with a love swing on the porch.
Here's the living room, with a huge TV (read: painting) to watch from the big red leather couch (read: brick couch) and a backdoor, which leads to this:
The backyard with a treehouse and a little garden - complete with a tiny waterfall, flower arrangements as well as naturally growing flowers. Since Jo is an archer, I've made her an archery range as well. The range is 30 m long.
Everyone should have their own airfield with a Sopwith Camel and a Helicopter. That's just a fact.
And of course, Starscream.
