Ok, so I picked up Kairo last night from Steam because it looked intriguing. (I'm a huge indie game fan if you haven't already figured it out.) It had the two things I love the most in games: exploration and puzzle solving. What I didn't realize that it had was this really weird, cool backstory that (after four HOURS of game play) I still haven't quite figured out. There are clues, of course. But I refuse to be spoiler-y and tell you about any of them.
You can move about using your WASD keys and space for jump, or you can use a joystick/gamepad. And that's primarily what you do. Move around. Hop on things, push other things. I can't really explain more than that or it gets even more spoilery. I CAN tell you that the music and amibient sounds are really cool and eerie. It's not frightening, it's just enough to keep you on edge. The puzzles come with absolutely no explanation of what they are or how they're solved, so you have to really mess around to figure them out. Of course, if you're seriously stuck, you can get hints... but I hate having to use them. It sort of ruins the fun of going "ah HA!"
The best description I can give you is this: Imagine you have been deposited in a huge, ruined cathedral. It seems to go on forever. In some rooms, you find intriguing buttons to press, and things start to move. You're not sure what they're doing WHEN they move, but at least now, they're moving. When you turn around you see a door that wasn't there before. Ohhhh, ok, THAT'S what the button pressing was for! And you move on...
This is Kairo. It's $8 on Steam or you can buy it directly from Richard Perrin's website (the author) at kairo.lockeddoorpuzzle.com/ for the same price.
And if you do pick it up and want to discuss it, please PM me, don't post spoilers in the comments. I don't want to ruin the fun for everyone else!
