This is my first blog post! Yay!

To start off with a general topic, I'll fully but simply explain the board game that I have invented for use in my Minecraft servers. It can be played physically though, and on any server. You can even make a computer program of it. It's simple enough.

What is it based of?
It's intended to resemble the Total War series and Chess.

Alright, Total War and Chess. You're talking about strategy and units. Spill the beans.
Units
There are two classes of units: 足軽 (Ashigaru) and 侍 (Samurai). Feel free to use English terms for these (Footman & Veteran?).

They are identical, except all units in the Samurai class cost twice as much as the units in the Ashigaru class and have one extra HP point.

So both classes share the same 3 unit types:
槍足軽と槍侍 (Yari Ashigaru to Yari Samurai) (Spear Foot Soldier and Elite) : These spearmen are essentially tanks in the battlefield, being a pain in the rear end to take down and effective walls for both defensive and offensive purposes.
弓足軽と弓侍 (Yumi Ashigaru to Yumi Samurai) (Bow Foot Soldier and Elite) : These archers, unlike the other units, do not lose HP when engaging another enemy when they are using their unique ability of ranged-attacking units 2 blocks away.
馬足軽と馬侍 (Uma Ashigaru to Uma Samurai) (Horse Foot Soldier and Elite) : These guys have the same weak health as Yumi units and don't even have ranged attack, but they have their own ability of moving twice as fast as everybody else. Sucker punch.

Health points and combat
Ashigaru units have 1 HP, meaning they die from any ranged attack or melee combat, except the Yari Ashigaru who have 2 HP and thus can survive two battles. Samurai units all have one extra HP than their Ashigaru counterparts, so now Yumi and Uma units can survive two attacks.

Whenever a unit engages in melee combat (the only unit capable of NOT attacking in melee combat only are the Yumi units), both sides lose one HP point. This is based on the assumption that everybody either sucks or are pros in fighting. Again, Yumi units do not suffer this penalty when doing a ranged attack, however if they attempt to engage any enemy 1 block from them, they are considered as engaging in melee. So run first, shoot later.

Points
This is the essential currency of the game. Based on the number of lines you control in your side of the board, you gain a specific amount of points each turn, and you're in a really screwed position if the enemy controls all of your 4 lines and thus you cannot regenerate any more units. Points are stored in a little counter; they can be hogged up and collected to a maximum of 9 or 8, depending on your preference.

The Board
It is a 11x11 board. There are 4 rows belonging to a team, then 3 rows of neutral land, then the following 4 rows belonging to the other team. At the centre of the last row of a team is a castle; this is the "King" of the game, the goal. All blocks adjacent to this castle are the spawning area for units; all other blocks in a team's side of the board are solely for point regeneration.

For a text-based example (I am unable to provide an image for this simple explanation, I will give nice pretty diagrams in my article in SCYKCRIS, another site), here is the board:

R-R-R-R-S-C-S-R-R-R-R
R-R-R-R-S-S-S-R-R-R-R
R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R
R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R
N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N
N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N
N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N-N
B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B
B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B
B-B-B-B-S-S-S-B-B-B-B
B-B-B-B-S-C-S-B-B-B-B

B is Blue Team's land, N is neutral land and R is Red Team's land.
S is the spawning area of units, C is the castle.

Lines
A line is clear and yours (regenerating one point for you each turn) if there are no enemy units on it or if you have a friendly unit in the same line an enemy unit is. This only applies to your lines; blocked enemy lines do not contribute to your regeneration each turn and instead only impede the enemy's regeneration. Still useful to block. Thus, if you want to block an enemy line, you have to wipe out all enemy units in that line and then put a unit there.

Movement
There are two types of gamemodes: Quick and Slow. In the slow gamemode, Yari and Yumi units move one block each turn, and Uma units move two. Yumi units can range attack enemy units 2 blocks away. In the quick gamemode, movement speeds of all units are doubled; however, Yumi units still can only range attack enemy units that are 2 blocks away. There was also an experimental Fast gamemode, which quadrupled the speed of all units, but the run-and-hit-or-hit-and-run nature of Yumi units made them overly OP and devastated anybody else standing in their way, rendering other units useless; if one were to play at this speed, it will probably be neccesary to limit everybody to a specific type of unit only.

One note about movement and attacks
An attack counts as moving a single block (imagine you are simply trying to put your unit ON TOP of the enemy unit but obviously there are consequences to such a silly folly); thus, a Yumi can move one block and then fire in a Quick game. They can also attack first and then move. However, this does not apply to other units; Yari and Uma units can move and attack, but end the turn after the attack no matter how many blocks of movement they still could do.

How to win, your goal
You must wipe out all enemy units and then cover all of their spawning blocks with one of your units each. This blocks the enemy from spawning any sort of unit, and thus you "capture" the castle due to the enemy not being able to do anything.

Summary
"Man, that was long, but I thought you had more to explain."
Nope, actually I already summed up all aspects of the game to you. That's all you need to know, that's why it's called "Simple War". To summarize everything, there are 3 type of units in 2 classes, one class of which is identical to the other but have units that are twice as expensive but have one extra HP point; 槍 (Spear)、弓 (Bow)、馬 (Horse). You must collect points throughout turns and spawn your choice of units in your spawning area and mobilize them to surround the enemy's castle after all their units lay dead. And that is all! Set up your board, start both players off with 4 points and no units, and 一戦へ!(Issen he!) (To battle!)

Thanks for reading! Comments are appreciated, and diamond if you like the concept or the fact that I fully outlined an original minigame!
