Hello! Today, I will be sharing my Minecraft skinning tips with everyone! Keep in mind that I'm no expert, and this is really a beginner tip list. And...let's begin!

Tips:
1. If you are making a human that's supposed to look real, make the hair look natural. This doesn't really apply to me since my skins are supposed to look cartoon-ish, but if you are making a realistic skin, don't make the hair out-of-this-world.
2. Shade. I understand if you are new and don't shade, but eventually, learn to shade
2.5: Release shaded AND un-shaded versions of your skins. This helps you appeal to not only the majorities that like shading, but the minorities that don't. If you are posting on PMC, put the un-shaded version in the description.
3. Take criticism. This is the sole thing that held me back from making my skins better for quite a while. You don't have to take criticism that you feel taking would contradict your style, but take any criticism you don't.
4. Don't release anything that you don't like, even if the general public would. Skins you make are a reflection of yourself. Don't cast a false reflection of yourself.
5. Don't skin if you don't like to skin. You will NEVERmake a good skin if you don't like to skin.
6. Your first skins won't be good, and if they are, they won't be great. Don't think they will.
7. Don't do things you don't want to do. This is similar to Number 4. If you don't want to make Teen Skins, DON'T MAKE TEEN SKINS! If you don't want to make OC skins, don't make OC skins! Skins you didn't want to make will generally turn out crappy because of lack of motivation.

Shading Tips:
1. Shade ALL of the parts. half-shaded skins, unless they are Work-In-Progress, are unacceptable. They look inconsistent.
2. Use a tutorial. Don't just go by what you think is shading (You get my first few "shaded" skins.) Irecommendthis one:http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/how-to-shade-like-a-pro---tutorial-for-minetorials/
3. Don't copy the shading style of someone whose shading you don't like. Speaks for itself.
4. Use shading to define the gender more. Add muscles for men, breasts for women.

WHAT NOT TO DO:
1. Microsoft Paint is the worst possible skinning program you can use!!!
2.Over-shading and Under-shading. Over-shading can make your skin look too shiny or sunburnt. Under-shading is when the shading is so un-noticeable, that it looks like an un-shaded skin. In the case of over-shading, many expert skinners are guilty of this.
3. Spending little time on everything before shading. I'm a bit of a newbie, so maybe someone actually IS able to finish every part of the skin before shading within less than half an hour, but even if I take half an hour to make an un-shaded skin, It looks like crap, and it needs polish. The only reason this would be acceptable for a newbie is if they are making a shading test.
4. Over-using the same parts. A lot of expert skinners (even ones that I like) are guilty of this *coughsugarbuncough,* but your skins start to look the same when you keep using the same hair, shirt, skin color, and pants (Even when the color is different.) I got my skin removed for this once!
5. In-proportionate muscles/breasts. This makes your skin look unrealistic, and there are only two uses for it: A) Online Dating and B) Doing certain....things in front of your computer screen.
6. Acting like shading will make a bad skin good. If your skin sucks before shading, it will suck after shading. The only skins that look better with shading are ones that look good without it.
7. Rave/Neon Skins. These are skins that contain mostly bright neon colors, sometimes without a face. These hurt my eyes. Note that just because you have rave in the title, or there's a lot of colors on the shirt/pants/gloves/etc. doesn't mean that it's a rave skin. Just make sure they aren't neon.
8. Miners Need Cool Shoes Skin Armory. This is lazy, your skins will look the same as 100,000 others, and it's against Planet Minecraft rules. Miners Don't Need Cool Shoes. Miners Need Crafty Hands.
9. Gradient Jobs. Gradients are perfectly fine when trying to make a shiny thing. But don't pass it off as shading. I used to do that. I sucked, and the tutorial I used also sucked. You are better off making your skins un-shaded (It looks better too!)
10. Templates.I'm not talking about bare-basic templates to show you where the parts are (Like templateman which comes with MCSkin3D,) I'm talking about ones that you just add clothes, or recolor something, and you're done. This is even bad when it's aprivatetemplate, because your skins will all look the same.
11. Copying the style of skinners you don't like.Again, DON'T POST SKINS THAT YOU DON'T LIKE!
12. Not doing a character because it has been done a lot.If you want to make a skin of a character, DO IT! Do not let others' skins stop you.
13. Shading Templates. Shading Templates are templates that you go on Photoshop/GIMP, make a new layer above your unshaded skin, copy the shading template on that layer, and make the shading template layertransparent. This is bad because it's lazy, and shading can't be done like that. It needs to be tailor-made for each skin. Again, un-shaded looks better than this.
14. Noise Shading. This is using the noise function, and passing it off as shading. This is ugly, even uglier than shading templates. Again, un-shaded is better than this.
15. Any other type of fake "Shading." I mentioned Gradient Jobs, Shading Templates, and Noise Shading, but those are just the worst of fake shading. There are other ones. Any fake shading, although many may think it looks better than un-shaded, but I disagree. Fake/Bad shading, in my opinion, IS worse than un-shaded.

So there, those are my tips to Minecraft skinning. If you can make one of my "What not to do" things good, then go ahead. If you disagree, go ahead. For the most part, it's often personal taste.

Microsoft paint is THE WORST for making skins, but if it's all that is available then use it. Use the skindex or miners need cool shoes skin editor with a completely clear skin is better then paint. I definetly agree with you about that.
