Orcs and Humans

There once were two prosperous kingdoms who lived in peace and harmony called Arcium and Agranthion. They never fought or quarreled because both kingdoms had plenty of natural resources and fertile soil. They grew their own food and worked their own mines and over time they were both able to gather great wealth.
One bright day, the sun came over the horizon and settled in the sky. Everything was bright and warm, and the people were happy to have a beautiful day to spend outside.
A week passed, and the sun was still warm in the sky, but there had been no rain. The people considered this good luck, since water was yet plentiful and the crops had been growing.
Another week passed, and the scorching sun was still there. Not a drop of rain had fallen. The people used water from the wells and rivers to water their crops, but they were slowly running out.
A month had passed and the sun was still relentless. The wells started to run dry and the rivers were low. The crops had died from lack of water and care.
Another month passed with little to no rain, and famine started to spread. People were dying on the streets because no food would grow from the earth and the animals were dying from lack of food and water. The unsanitary conditions started a wave a plague that wiped out a lot of the children and most of the elderly.
The two kingdoms had both heard rumors that there were fertile lands in the north, where water still flowed freely, and the land was green.

Both kingdoms laid claim to the lands, claiming that it belonged to them. After a long but fruitless dispute the countries waged war.
Arcium was the first to make a move. They sent out a troop of men to occupy the lands and sent along a few farmers and carpenters to build an outpost there.
Agranthion took this as an assault against them and retaliated by sending a group of warriors to burn down their settlement and kill the men.
After this all out war broke out.

The killing went on for months, until both sides were desperate from lack of food and because of their losses.
Arcium decided to lay siege to the capital of Agranthion. They sent the remains of their forces to surround the capital and force Agranthion to surrender. Agranthion was devastated, because they didno t have the men necessary to drive back such an assault. The king Athelm Solaria, gathered up his wisest mages and advisors but they could come up with nothing.
A group of mages decided to do the unthinkable and to tap into the evil underworld to power their troops in combat. They made a circle of power, in the middle of which stepped a volunteer mage, and gathered their most powerful Magi to cast the spell. After hours of casting and exhaustion they managed to bind the essence of a demon to the flesh of the volunteer. Thus the first orc named Krigash, was born.

While the orcs were savage and barbaric by nature, they could be easily controlled by the Magi and thus could be utilized for battle.
Soon after they used all their prisoners of war and lowlifes to turn into a new horrid army. After only a week they had a troop of orcs who fought in the most feral manner possible. They managed to break the siege and they took the assault straight to Arciumso s capital. Almost all of the magi were sent there to control the orcs and use them and the primary force.
Agranthion's forces first went for the Magi of Arcium, so they couldno t somehow take control of the orcs and use them against them.

Then they marched against the castle of Arcium itself.
The fight was not long, because the orcs could shrug of both arrows and cuts with ease. The soldiers on Arciumo s side quickly dwindled. Only a few troops were left standing.
While Agranthion was about to win, an archer of Arcium managed to kill one of the Magi, temporarily breaking the spell that was holding the orcs in line.
They quickly rose up and slaughtered the magi and soldiers from both Agranthion and Arciumo s side. They then fled the area and spread out over the lands.
The humans from Agranthion were still able to overpower the few men left Arcium and they took control.
But the conflict was not yet over.
The remainder of humans banded together to eliminate the orcs. They hunted day and night until they figured they had gotten all of them, but they did not known that one troop of orcs, sent to one of Agranthion's mines had never made it to the battle.
They had overpowered their human masters and fled to hide in a nearby abandoned temple.
After the humans thought they had eliminated the orcish threat, they moved to the North to found a new capital, known as Ethene, where both groups of humans could start a new future...

The Elves and Dwarves

There once was a proud and noble race of dwarves who lived under the ground, digging for ores and minerals. They were a inquisitive people, who spent a lot of their time researching the mysteries of the deeps. They delved long and deep, looking for precious stones to decorate their grand underground halls. They spent long years under the earth without any contact with the newer races. They believed that each race should mind their own business and they stuck to theirs. When the humans waged war with eachother the dwarves picked no side, preferring to stay neutral.

One day, their miners discovered a strange mineral composition deep under their halls. No normal pick could pierce it for it was stronger than any stone the miners had seen before. They dug around the formation, hoping to find another way in to investigate what was inside. Some dwarves were wary, remembering the ancient legends of the demons of the deeps, who the gods had once shut under the earth to keep them from corrupting it. Other didno t believe in the elder tales and thought they had just discovered an ancient cave that could contain rare and precious gems.
They consulted with the scholars of their race, who had heard of a pick of living wood, that belonged to the elves of Eulur. The ever curious dwarves quickly readied a squadron of their best warriors who were to be sent across the plains to the land of the elves, to borrow their enchanted pick.

The troop of dwarves marched over the lands with a steady pace, never tiring or stopping without reason. After a few weeks of steady marching they had reached the borders of the elven lands. The elven scouts quickly spotted them and took the dwarves to their king.
Having reached the king the dwarves requested of him the Pickaxe of Living Wood, Burrowthorn, not stating the reason for which they needed it. The Elven king told them of the legend of the ancient demons that are sealed under the earth and warned them against releasing it upon the world. The dwarves did not believe in the old tales and did not tell the elven king of their discovery. They simply said that they had found a new type of mineral and they had need of the pick. The elf king took an oath from them, saying that if the dwarves were to use the pick to release the ancient evil from the depths of the earth the elves would find out and be forced to make war with them. The dwarves, not believing that there was any sort of evil hiding underneath the earth quickly agreed and set out with Burrowthorn.

When they got back to their homelands with the legendary pick, the dwarves took it straight to their scholars who instructed the miners of ito s use. After an expedition of their best miners reached the dark walls of the stone formation again, they put the Enchanted Pick to use. After a few strikes broke through the old stone. As soon as the pick had gone through an eerie noise filled the caverns and a darkness started seeping out of the hole. A few dwarves that were too close were enveloped by it and they were turned into dust as they screamed. The rest of the dwarves ran to the ancient halls and notified the people of what had happened.

The dwarves were all quickly evacuated to the surface and the halls of their ancestors were closed off and warded with their best runes. For a lot of the dwarves it was their first time seeing the surface and it shocked many of them.
Orders were given out and an outpost was quickly set up. The best dwarven masons set out to build a great wall around the perimeter of their lands.
Now the dwarves are trying to set up their life above the surface and hoping to one day drive out the ancient evils from their earthly halls, fearing that one day it might find a way out, causing turmoil in the whole land.

The elves took pity upon the dwarves, seeing them forced out of their ancestral home and called off the war. Thinking that the dwarves deserved at least some sort of punishment for their foolish mistake they fined them, and took a portion of the dwarves riches and stored them in a vault in the great tree.

Nes'dein

The Nes'dein were banished, years ago to a hellish world by a unkown force, now the Dwarves have released them from their hellish prison by breaking the spell with Burrowthorn, the enchanted pickaxe. The banishment and time in that hellish world has reduced the Nes'deins powers drastically, but they are still strong. They, and their undead army now lurk in the darkness of Myrinthia...
