Gosh, 1.5 is awesome, but being a bukkit server owner, I cant do the big switch yet until bukkit releases a 1.5 version. Its sad, all good minecraft servers now unavailable to 1.5 users, but now, May I present to you... A Way of letting 1.5 clients connect to a 1.4.7 server!
Thanks to the awesome team at spigot, they introduced a awesome feature, the Snapshot protocol setting! Basicly this setting tricks your client into thinking this it a 1.5 server, its a lot more technical than that but in a nutshell that's what it is doing.
Ok to kick this off first download spigot by clicking here, then repalce your bukkit file with the spigot.jar, being sure to also editing your bat file or commands to link to your craftbukkit jar file. Next start up your server and when it boots shut it down. Next open your bukkit.yml using your favorite text editing software (For windows I recommend Notepad++) and under the part that says "settings:" type: "snapshot-protocol: true" making sure everything is spaced properly. After that your bukkit.yml should look something like this:
After that restart your server, and thats it! 1.5 player should be able to connect to your server!
NOTE: The new blocks and redstone will not work! This only lets 1.5 player connect to your 1.4.7 server!
tl;dr: replace craftbukkit with spigot and add "snapshot-protocol: true" to your bukkit.yml
