Hi, this is a 5,000 word story I had to write for my English class! It is a story called corrupt basically about a boy who has to find the "cure" for a disease called Simiose. He has many obstacles along the way, one being the Interference. Read the story to find out more!!! Brett7777

















I woke up to shouting in the street. It was not unusual for this to happen on a weekday. I decided that I would finally slip on some clothes and head downstairs. My house is very small and there are unfinished features everywhere. As I walked downstairs I saw my mother making a bowl of cereal as she sat at a table with four seats. If it was two years ago, my brother would be sitting across from her and my father would sit beside her. Now they are both dead and it is the Interferences fault. Someday I will hurt, torture, or maybe even kill them. My name is Tommy.



Here in this once flourishing city of Chicago my family was normal and everybody had jobs and food. Now, a terrible disease has fallen upon the world wiping out families. You would think these people would be sick and weak with this disease. No, theyo re mad. People are willing to kill, wipe out, and destroy for what they want. If being the best fighter in the world was perfect in their head, then they might kill whoever is better than them to be that kind of fighter. Only the cure can stop this madness, and that is why the Interference is taking over.



The Interference wants to get this disease in any way possible. Their leader Derrick wants to be the most liked person in the world and his goal is to get this cure. Derrick just grabbed a couple fifteen people and told them that they would get the cure. Thato s how they exist today. Why not stay back and let them get the cure? My father was a scientist and he invented the cure. Derrick at the time hated my father and he wanted to kill him. Well he did kill him and left the cure behind for the military to pick up. Now it is hidden deep down in the base and Derrick will kill me if I get a hold of that cure.



As I take my coat of the rack I say good bye to mother. The moment I walk out the door someone says to me o Theyo re here, run!o I have gotten used to the concept that the messengers are talking about the Interference so I jump into the bushes for cover. A few moments later I watch as Derrick points to a boy and asks him a few questions I couldno t make out. He then asks him what his name is and the boy says Sawyer. I dono t know Sawyer very well but I do know that he is very well with repairing things. Derrick tells the boy some things I cano t understand and releases him back. I wait until they leave to reveal my position.



As Sawyer comes up to me I ask him o What that was all about?o



o They were asking for someone named Tommy, do you know who that is?o Sawyer asked



For safety reasons I say no and carry on the conversation.



o Well I have to go.o Sawyer said



o Bye Sawyer, Do you think we could meet some other time?o I say



o Maybe, just maybe.o Says Sawyer



As Sawyer walks away I decide that I would go out for a walk. As I walk down the streets I see plenty of cracked building and not one of them are in good condition. After about twenty minutes I have suspicion that someone is following me. Ignoring my instincts I continue on and come across this lima bean shaped statue that reflects the building at weird angles. I get about ten seconds to look at it before someone startles me.



o Who are you?o



o I didno t see you, where you following me?o



o The question was who are you?o



o Tommy, why?o



The conversation ended there as she blindfolded me and put me and dragged me along. When she undid the blindfold on me I was approached by a couple of men in suites who asked me why I was walking in their territory. I told them that it was a mistake and I was just walking around. I noticed the interference badges on the suites, but derrick does not appoint anyone badges unless they are skilled enough to guard his side.



o Tommy I think we will have to report this to Derrick.o They say together



o So why areno t you standing next to him?o I ask



o Why do you ask that?o They ask



o You have those badges there. Derrick only assigns them to his top men. What are you really wearing that for?o I say



o Well uh, the other guy butts in, Disguise.o They tell me stuttering



o So you areno t Interference?o I ask



o Exactly!o they say



o Ok, so why are you disguised?o I ask them



o We are trying to avoid any Interference possible because we are the top 2, 3, and 4 suspects of the Interference for stealing a large chunk of their goods.o One guy says



o Who is number one?o I ask curiously



He says almost with a smile o You are obviously. Derrick has been trying to hunt you down for the past year to get the cure.o



o I dono t have the cure?o I say



o We know that. Just take a walk around the city so we can figure out this whole cure business.o The other says



Just as He said that the girl came running in to ask a few questions. She then turned around and quickly ran away.



I ask, o what was that all about?o



o Oh, you will get used to Wilma. Leto s get going.o The big one says



We walk for about five minutes finding almost nothing. Then a sudden gunshot sounded in the street. As I turn to look who it is, Wilma pops out of some debris motioning us to follow her down a long alley.



Tommy asked o Wilma, what is going on?o



o Nothing, just stay close Tommy.o She whispers



As we went on the two men stayed back and every step of the way hurt. We finally come across a building and Wilma tells me all about how the Military supposedly buried it in this compound.



o The only problem is that no one knows what it is but us few people and the military will not communicate until they figure out what it is thierself.o



I was about to ask Wilma why they will not let anyone communicate but I thought that I would sound stupid. She tells me that the plan was to map out as much as they can about the compound so that they can find a way to the cure and out.



Wilma says, o so far we have only made it to this surveillance hallway and the cure could be anywhere. All I need is to find the controls for the camera and we are in!o



o How do you plan to go about this?o I say



o I just need the right skills and size for the job.o



I tell Wilma goodbye and start heading home. Only she doesno t know what I will be bringing back.







When I get home I tell my mother a quick goodbye and tell her I will be back in about two hours. No reply, but I know she is ok with it. I see Macon fiddling with a few toys about a few houses down.



I ask o What do you need that foro



Almost startled by my question Sawyer says o Oh, well just a gadgeto



I get to the point quick and fast o Do you suppose you could come with me to help a couple of friends obtain the cure?o



o The Cure! I would love to help you, as long as I dono t get killed.o He says sarcastically



o Well, could you at least see what you can do to help us?o I ask



o Fine I will, just because I know what this means to you.o He says



We walk away in separate directions. I even start running at one point. When I reach up to Wilma, I tell her that I have a recruit. She is not all that surprised and asks what his or her name is.



o Sawyero I say



Wilma is staring at me with her mouth wide open and says o No! not him, I will never ever work with him!o



I say o Sawyer? He is just twelve, what could he do? In fact he just sits at home all day making little Gadgets.o



Felling stupid Wilma quietly says o Oh Sawyer killed my little sister about 3 years ago. I hate that guy. I am going to kill him someday.o



I say o an older Sawyer?o



o ya.o she says



o When this is all over I will call him over to see what he can doo I say trying to forget the conversation. I decide to run back home Sawyer Macon. It is a trip I have experienced about a million times it feels like, ever since this morning at least.







When I arrive it is a lot later than I anticipated. I might have dozed off a little on the way home. It is about nine oo clock according to the sky so I decide to go to bed for the night.



I wake to rustling downstairs. I go check to see what it is without throwing my shirt on. My mother is walking around frantically saying o I lost it! It is gone!o



I ask her o Whato s gone?o



She says o My- o She is cut off by a few tears as I decide to sit down next to her. I notice half a golden locket in her hands.



o You lost dads half?o I say



She stutters o No I, I just misplaced it.o



I tell her I will be on the lookout for it as I head out the door. Once I get outside there is no thinking about mom. I go straight to Sawyer and ask him if he has made up his mind.



o I thought about it and siding with you could be the best option there is. I haveno t done much and nothing will change if I just sit around.o



I tell him I am glad with his choice and we keep on going. Through this path I have been through only ten times and I memorized it. When we arrive at the military compound Sawyer looks scared, only until he sees Wilma and starts to pay attention to the plan.



o Ok, Sawyer will go across the grand Yard to the little caller doors. From there you will go and find out what is inside the building. If you do manage to find the control room I want you to call me in with this,o She hands him a little communication device. o From There me and Tommy will go in and take action on guards.o



I go into the yard where Sawyer splits up to go for the little cellar door against the left side. Me and Wilma make it to the door and just as we are about to take out the guard the device flashes.



o Hey Io m at the cellar door but I had to duck into a bush because there are guards.o Sawyer says with a bit of transmission error.



Wilma says back o Let us take out this guard; we will then take his gun to you.o



Sawyer says a quick o thankso as Wilma takes off for the guard from behind with a knife. I watch the life spill out of him. It makes me feel terrible about everything but the country needs saved.



I ask o Did you have to kill him?o



Wilma replies o It did not kill him, I injected him with this syringe of liquido I realize it wasno t a knife. As she puts a silencer on the gun she also states that the bullets are rubber. o Io m going to fill these couple of magazines with bullets I found. I will need to give this to Sawyer wait hereo



I wait for what seems like the longest couple of minutes and as a look up there is a gun pointed at my head. A guard shouts o Dono t move!o and shoots me in the leg. Almost simultaneously he falls to the ground with a needle in his back. Before I see Wilma my vision goes black and I am unconscious.







I wake up and I am in a room full of nothing but white walls. Wilma is walking around frantically until she sees me wake up.



o Oh, youo re awake!o She says



I ask o What happened and how long has it been?o



She says o It has been about two hours and all we did was drag you into a small supply closet until we had a clear walk to this room.o



I get up slowly and warily following her to our next position to take.



o We have to get to that side of the hallway so we can get signal of Macon, then we will map out our route and be done. Can you go on?o



o Yeso I say not really sure of my condition



We walk to the end of the hallway where wee snooped into a side room. Wilma tells Macon we are ready to go.



o Ok Io m going to need you guys to go right through the doors and then turn left down the long hallway where a couple of guards are posted. Then I will need you to go downstairs and right into the door labeled Cure. From there I think it will be pretty straight forward.o



Wilma and I go out the hallway to our right and a 3couple of guards areno t posted where Macon told us where they were.



Wilma whispers o This must be a surprise attack.o



As Wilma said that a couple of guards busted the door. Wilma immediately swoops behind one and stabs the syringe into his neck. He goes blank and I freeze up.



She yells o Tommy shoot!o



I get my senses and shoot the guard not trying to think about anything but the cure and my mother.



o Ok leto s keep on going and be careful for any other guards on the way!o Wilma says



We make a right, left, and then another right into this room with four doors. One says o Caution Radioactiveo , the other three say o staff, lab 13, and c-reo



o The c-re sign must be cure because the u is scratched out.o I say



Wilma walks up to the door and looks inside a little window. o Nothing in thereo she says o leto s goo



We walk in and we both say whoa because there are tons of gadgets everywhere.



o This must be my dado s lab.o I say



There is a small stand with a little bottle containing liquid. It says Simiose repellent on the bottle. Wilma picks it up and part of the wall starts moving. After the wall stops moving a whole room of these bottles open.



The radio starts crackling a bit o ok I got some trucks on the outside, but it seems that the guards are aware of you guys so run!o says sawyer
