So in this very Blog Post im going to teach all of you how to create your very own texture pack! Im going to teach you the basics, and some tips and tricks to make it outstanding!

Step 1. You need a good program to edit your texture pack in! I suggest you use these following programs.

GIMP- GIMP is a free picture editing software, I personally like using GIMP more than PhotoShop, but if you'r good whit PhotoShop you will make the best textures. You can download GIMP here: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
Download the program and if you feel like it a language packet.

paint.NET- paint.NET is another free photo editing software. Junkboy used paint.NET to make the default textures of MineCraft. It does have some good features, but in my opinion GIMP is the winner of the free programs. Also, note that the pain program that's already installed on your computer is NOT the paint.NET i'm talking about.
You can download paint.NET here: http://paint.net/

Adobe PhotoShop CS5- This is the best and probably most famous photo editing software of these 3 alternatives. PhotoShop is not free like the two other programs, but have a lot more features! PhotoShop currently costs allot of money (Over $1000 and even o ¬1000) However there are always a cheaper solution... Yes i'm talking illegal downloading. You shouldn't how ever illegally download anything, instead you should download GIMP or paint.NET.

Step 2. Finding the files

To make a texture pack you need files to edit. You can fin these files if you follow these easy steps.

1. Press start.
2. In the bar in the lower part of the list of programs, type either "Run" or "%appdata%" (both without the ")
2.1 If you typed in "run", now type in "%appdata%" (Again without the ")
3. Go into the .minecraft folder
4. Go into the Bin folder
5. Go into the minecraft.jar file. (NOTE: for this step you need winrar or 7zip. winrar:http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm 7zip:http://www.7-zip.org/
6. Search for the following files,
--png files
-pack.png
-particles.png
-terrain.png

--txt files
-pack.txt

--maps
-achievement
-armour
-art
-environment
-font
-gui
-item
-misc
-mob
-terrain
-title

That is all the files that together is the original texture pack of MineCraft!

Step 3. How to make a texture pack that suits you!

There is endless possibilities! You can make any kind of texture pack you want! You can make low res and high res packs, cartoon and realistic packs, you name it! However you should make a texture pack for you. Make it feel like it was something you'v always wanted to do! I for example are working on a 64x64 RPG texture pack (Amongst others) And why do i make a RPG pack? Because i love RPG games! Whatever you like you can make! Like creepers? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geq67Psno-8 Like cartoons? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ9jMK_CeDo Like sparkly vampires? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBCV-rYUj9A Like RPG games just like me? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhpah22sMLE&feature=related Like realistic graphics? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B86mXdyb_pA

Step 4. Where to start.

Now that you know what theme you want to have for your texture pack its just to start editing! Before i start i usually look on Google images for inspiration, tho movies, games and other peoples texture pack work aswell!

If you feel inspired, then lets start! First of all, you should have one folder on the desktop whit the files you want to edit, and a .jar fil named what you want your texture pack to be named!

Not i suggest starting whit a block in the terrain.png file. Now we open it up! Right click it and choose Open whit... (the program your using) and now you just have to start painting freely! Remember, imagination and inspiration are keywords to make a good texture pack!

Then we have the pack.txt, if you open that you will be able to write something that will be shown in the texture pack selection menu. For example, let's say your pack is named SwedeCraft, then you write Made by Swedish_Wiking in the pack.txt it will look like this.

SwedeCraft
Made by Swedish_Wiking

Step 5. Publishing.

When your publishing your texture pack you want it to become popular, don't you? Yes i thought so. The best way to do this is to make some nice pictures that shows most of the pack! Also a Youtube video is never wrong to show your audience! Other ways to make it popular is to post it on several forums and sites and also make several updates on the pack. However you should not abuse the update system, because it will only get you hate.

Step 6. Enjoy!

You have made your very own texture pack! Now as a continuation you should make even more textures and keep on practising, and one day you may reach the level of Doku, Sphax or even Scuttles!

(Optional) Step 7. Taking it to the next level.

As of right now the MCPatcher that we use to patch minecraft when we use hig res packs allows you to make animated blocks! (Video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBCV-rYUj9A ) And also you can make random mobs and alot of other more advanced features

-Random Mobs
Copy+Paste the (for this time we'll say zombie) zombie.png in the mobs folder so that you now have two zombie.png files. You can edit both of the files and you should make two diffrent zombie skins! One simple zombie skin to make is the headless zombie, just remove the head and put a bloody neck on the top of the body!

-Animated Blocks
I currently don't know how this works, but i will look it up!

Please if you like this tutorial, give it a diamond and share it whit the world! I wan't to see more active texture pack creators! Also it supports me in my goal on PMC, to teach others how to make a awesome texture pack and become good friends whit other creators!

I like how you can spell "continuation", but not "with" :P
Anyways nice tut, It really describes where to start and what to do. I can teach you how animated blocks work, although you most likely need to make another tut for that.
