Hello there! My name is McHorse, and I would like to share with you with my original Minecraft ideas which should be added in Minecraft, and it will work.

Improved building

Building in Minecraft can be fun, but building gigantic structures or a big city, with a diverse architectural style, which might take weeks or even months, might ruin the fun for you. That's why Mojang (or an independent modder) should make a set of tools to boost up the performance of the building, and here are the list of tools which should be added to Minecraft.

Note: I know there is exist a sexy mod called worldedit, but it's not 100% boosting the performance.

GUI and keys all the way...

In order to reach maximum performance of the building process, these ideas would require GUI or key bindings approach, instead of commands or items. Keys would be used for bringing up context menus or popups, meanwhile most of the GUI would have something that isn't just possible to use keyboard for (sliders, multiple text inputs, etc.)

So let's start with covering my ideas.

Let's start off with Improved Building

Improved Building mod, won't be available in vanilla by default. It will be a separate gamemode which is far superior than creative mode (/gamemode 4 or /gamemode building). Once you entered this mod, you can use any of the features from Improved Building.

Changes in block placing

In Improved Building mode, you would be able to place blocks differently, for exception of placing blocks as usually, you would be able to:

  • Place blocks underneath yourself, if you're not reaching any blocks anywhere below yourself – very useful when you need to occupy some place in the air for further building or building horizontal lines
  • Place blocks in a line (not only horizontal ones) by holding a Place Line key binding
  • Replace blocks by holding a Replace Block key binding

These new capabilities will allow you a lot more than vanilla provides, and going to boost your building process in a lot of times, but that's not all. It's only the beginning.

Block regions

Just as in WorldEdit, you would be able to select a region, but... the process will be much easier for more difficult regions. To start selecting a region, you simply right click on a block when holding Region key binding.

Once you done that, you can either select the second point (just as in WorldEdit) by going to another spot and selecting the point as the first one, or you could adjust regions points by opening up the context menu by pressing Improved Building Context Menu keybinding, and choosing Region category would allow you to edit points either by inputing exact values, or using a slider to adjust the value, and see the changes in real time.

The region would also be rendered in the world, so you knew how your region is looks like.

Looking forward, with regions, you would be able to do different things, such copy, cut, fill, walls, replace and other stuff that has WorldEdit. There would be few other features regarding regions which is not exist in worledit, such as:

  • Region cleaning – this feature works mostly on hollow structures, what it would do is erase blocks which are touching each other inside.
  • Build a sphere based on the size of the region
  • Bulid a cylinder based on the size of the region

Also, all region operations would be asynchronous and will be broken into chunks, so there won't be the server freeze like if you would try to build a giant sphere with WorldEdit.

Also you would be able to select multiple regions and deselect them, using the Context Menu.

Mirror planes

Mirror Planes will be a specific feature to Improved Building. Basically, Mirror Planes feature will allow you to build by hand, but it will reflect the blocks you placed to the other planes. For example, you need to build a citadel. It's basically a box with 4 towers on every corner.

So, instead of copy and pasting every time the towers, when you change things, you will be able to setup mirror places around the towers, and all you have to focus on is only that one quarter of the building, because every block you place will be placed or deleted in the Mirror Plane, and it doesn't matter which region you would choose to build in, it would still reflect the blocks, no matter where you put them.

And with Mirror planes, you would be able setup them in different axes, so all kinds of buildings would be able to be built. Regions would also be able to be used with mirror planes, however, you would have to specify that the region can be used with Mirror Plane, so you would still have the ability to select regions absolutely.

Such features will allow builders to build awesome stuff much faster than using vanilla creative mode or WorldEdit. Since I'm a modder, I could technically create a mod with described capabilities, but unfortunately, at the moment, I'm busy with other things to do. I wish I could make such cool mod, but I can't due to lack of time.

Thanks for reading!

Mixed feelings. On one hand there is already this kind of stuff. It's not something that doesn't exit to surprise with. On the other hand, it's nice to have it in vanilla minecraft to build things.

Can't decide, but good luck although you're competition!

I haven't seen something like that. Worldedit is closest, but it's not even as comfortable as to what I described.

Thanks, same to you! :)

This is basically worldedit, and I don't see anything that would make it better than just having the mod.

This is based on some of ideas of WorldEdit, but it's not it. It's a better way of building, because you don't need to use commands, and instead is provided with context menus, more handful features and key bindings. Please read it again, because it seems like you didn't get its full potential over WorldEdit.
