Im here to talk about a crime that was committed to a few 100 people on March 23, 2014. Before i go into my story i want to let you know that this blog is to spread awareness about what Minecraft should be and what Minecraft is all about. I dont know any other place to share my expierence than on PlanetMinecraft. This story is not to just complain, read all the way to the end.

About 3 months ago my mom's boyfriend saw a Minecraft meet/convention on facebook. He knows how much i like Minecraft and really enjoys it himself, so he shows me this and we both look at what this so called Minecraft greet is going to be about. This meet by the name of "Meeting of The Mines" was said to be for Mincrafters who couldnt make it to Minecon. Their ticket price was $50 because they know how pricey Minecon can be. Troy and i thought this was pretty cool, we start looking into the features that will be there. There was going to be arts and crafts, face painting, a costume contest, lego sets givin away, ps4's givin away, and a well known band to be paying there. We thought it seemed pretty cool and bought three tickets for March 23 because the 22 was sold out.

March 23, we get up and head out to Orlando Florida where the Meeting is to be held. When we get there we see a long line of people wearing Minecraft stuff in a parking lot so we knew we found the right place. This place had no safe parking at all, nobody was directing parking, so we parked across the street. We get out and get over there and stand in line, we noticed this place was pretty shady. The building it was hosted in looked like some vacant place that they just hosted out of for nothing. We get to the door and the place smells like salt water and the place is all dark and it looked pretty run down. The place was really crowded for how many people were there, this place was smaller than the inside of a Mc Donalds. We go to the back to find a bathroom and i notice that there is no privacy at all. We get out and go look around and the first thing we notice is some flatscreen TVs to the side but they were'nt even set up. This place opened at 12 and didnt even have anything ready. We walked around and the only thing we could see was a bar on the side, a couple of small tables where the arts and crafts were, and some tables that had nothing set up on them. Now at about this point were are thinking about leaving, we were like "we spent $150 for all of us to go here for this and yet they have no organization at all". I thought to myself i should go and get some free stuff since we spent all this money. I see gift bags that people are carrying, so we find where our free gift bags were and get three since we bought three tickets. We go to the side of the room and look in them, we got some papercraft foldable blocks, a paper thing for signatures, and a glow stick which we would need since its so dark in the place. So we leave, the place was so shady and not much to do, we walk out. We are on our way to the car but get stopped because we have a conversation with some lady in the parking lot. Her first thing she said was "I going to get my kids this place is'nt safe for them. They arent even checking for tickets anymore, they are just letting people walk in.". We talk for a minute about how unorganized it was and then headed to our car.

On our way back home my mom said she was sorry for the disapoinment. I wasnt that disapointed since i went to minecon, what bothered me was the thought of all those little kids that probably saved up or did chores or whatever to go to this meet that wasnt great at all. I thought "Hey lets tweet Notch!" because i wanted to see what he might say. Now if notch is seeing this i will say this, its not his fault at all. I wanted to tweet him just for the heck of it, i didnt even know what good it would do. He wouldnt be able to do anything really.

Now im writing this for the kids that went. Maybe by chance Notch will see this or one of the Mojang staff will see this and possibly in the future host some kind of meet/convention other than Minecon in Florida. I feel like these kids should have another chance to go to a place where they can meet kids with similar interests, Minecraft. This blog isnt to complain about what a waste of money we spent, its to tell everyone that Minecraft conventions and meets are about meeting and hanging out with people that have the same interest that you do. Thats what any gaming convention is about, its not about the money or whats offered there. Its about the kids having a good time but in a safe place.

People who say it wasn't a scam, then tell me this, why wasn't mojang endorsing this? was there any approval by mojang to host this? this kevin roman made bullcrap excuses blaming the parents, saying stuff was stolen by those who were working with them and clearly blaming the children for breaking the grass painted boxes claiming there was a schedule. apologising for the problems? why wouldn't they, you want an uprising of angry parents wanting their money back, of bloody course you'd apologise.

The prizes, how many of these prizes were actually given out? ONE ps4 was given out and the workers had to NAG roman for the money, what kind of impression does that give you? excuse the language but it's bullsh*t that people think this wasnt a scam, any person can see that this was a scam. I feel for the parents trying to surprise their children and the disappointment that the children felt, and yet who gets the blame inevitably, mojang.

Mojang gets a bad rep because these idiotic people fooled these people into paying them for a shoddily done scam-vention. These parents are lucky that paypal is giving them their money back, I hope to God that these people PAY for what they've done to so many kids and parents, scamming them and blaming the kids for busting the boxes before the 'scheduled' prize giving, BLAMING the parents as well as the patrons for "stealing" the things.

This makes me boil with anger, they scammed, they broke the hearts of so many children who could not have a chance to go to minecon because of distance, expenses etc and makes out that they're innocent, I HOPE that roman gets in a lot of trouble for this, even if this weren't over minecraft I'd still be pissed off that he scammed these children and parents making a lot of people disappointed and upset.

Oh yes, anything Minecraft related must be Mojang approved or else it's a scam. Any unofficial Minecraft merchandise in the world? Scam. Every server selling VIP or whatever? Scam. Planet Minecraft? Scam. By your logic.

Also, the giveaways were not given out because everything else was stolen. They did not want anything else stolen.

No one had to nag Roman for the money. He originally planned on paying with Paypal, but because of all the refunds given from that, he had to tap into his own bank account, which caused the delay. No bad intentions.

The only information you have is from one side of the story. Do you really think a reasonable opinion will develop from listening to everyone shout "SCAM SCAM SCAM" and nothing else?

Yes sir, it was a scam. I WAS THERE. They didn't close down because it was getting 'out of hand'. No, the place was DEAD. A bunch of people walking around looking bored, while a few that dressed up were dancing. A few systems were hooked up for the kids to do the 'starcrafting' nonsense.

Research into it found the booking for the whole event, was literality for two hours. It wasn't a whole weekend event, no booking for such was ever made. No the whole venue was booked for JUST two hours, that plus peopl,e getting angered at it all yeah they bwere 'forced' to close it down, because their time was up. Shoot, I got in WITH OUT EVER HAVEING TO SHOW MY 'TICKET'! No, they were letting anyone in that came to the door. Thats now much of a 'scam' this is. You didn't have to say you had one, didn't have to pull one out. Mine was still folded up in my purse and the guy at the door let me walk right in.

People have looked into this event. The people that signed for it? Forged names, they don't exist. The workers that were hired, the band, they were paid with checkls that got bounced. The winner of the 1k for the costom contest the check BOUNCED.

Don't go saying it's all because paypals now refunding stuff. No it's been OVER A MONTH sense this all went down, sense all these checks were bounced. Paypal was alerted of the SCAM and offered to refund everyone just LAST WEEK.

The so called 'apology' also didn't pan out.. there were never any events held, they gave away flipping box's of PENS. People didn't 'rush' in and ruined events, there were none to be had. Everything was freaking dull, people just stood around and did nothing. Theres videos of the event all over youtube, just go and see how 'crazy' this so called thing got.

Oh, and the NY event? The address given for it was a freaking daycare center, and calling it confirmed no event was booked there. Yet they were already selling tickets to it... to an event that didn't exist.

I'm sorry for you have got to get your facts sorted. Nothing was stolen, NO ONE rushed in and demoed the place like they tried to say happened. We were given a bag with freaking cleaning cards and well, thats all mine had in it. Few others got incompleat papercraft trees. We walked in, and stood around. Thats the whole thing. Then went up to the stage a few to be given PENS.

Plus they were 'supportingly' sponsored by Redbull and Nickelodeon? Haha... no... The logo they used for Nick hasn't been their logo sense 2009, and they already made a statement that as said before:
"Nickelodeon is not affiliated with the “Meeting of the Mines” event
that took place March 22-23, and the usage of our logo was not
authorized or approved." this is per their Sr Director of Communications.

It's sick that you keep defending this nonsense.

Really look at the facebook page created by the parents that attented this mess. Look at the REAL ohotos taken by them, not the paied photographer who only picked the 'best ones' whom by the way... also never got paid.. (bouced check what a shock) and just see how dead the event really was.
http://i.imgur.com/InKnXTa.jpg
There you go... that was the event... that photo... that is all anyone did.. stand around.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdz7yx-5Ge0
Theres a half hour of the two hour event...oh yeah a lot of 'crazy' went on there huh? Naw... more people standing around.  The only highlight of the whole two out nonsense were the people that dressed up and danced.

Get-your-facts-sorted.

Meeting of the Mines was not a scam. A few of the attendees stole the items that were being used for the event. Exhibits, giveaway items, and others were stolen. Even the scavenger hunt was stolen before the event started! The atmosphere became chaotic, and the organizers had to cancel the event. It was not their fault. It was not a scam.

If it was a scam, would they immediately offer refunds and apologize constantly? Of course not! If they were scammers, they would try to disappear off the face of the Earth. Jumping the gun and calling this a scam is ridiculous.

OH and their so called 'sponsor' were bogus as well. Nickelodeon? Redbull? None of the so called listed sponsors were real. In fact Nick had replied with:
"Nickelodeon is not affiliated with the “Meeting of the Mines” event
that took place March 22-23, and the usage of our logo was not
authorized or approved." this is per their Sr Director of Communications.

Not a scam huh?

Oh, and don't get me started on all the 'winners' to the contests and all the people hired to get nothing more then bounced checks. The guy made 50+k off this. Yet no one got any prize money, or got paid for working there. Nope just a bunch of bounced checks.

Are you kidding me? There are videos that parents took of the event on youtube. Nothing got 'out of hand'. It wasn't 'chaotic' it was DEAD. People were leaving after just getting there. There is prof of what they had and gave out. Nothing was stolen, it DIDN'T EXIST. The whole 'out of hand' was a cover up to take the cash and go.

Not all scammers will try and hide. They infact got away with it almost, by using paypal as a main means to get tickets. Sense they got the tickets three months ahead of time, with paypal you can only dispute a payment with in 31 days. That sealed the deal. Although Paypal is now looking into it and may be offering a refund anyway so their little plan failed there.

Then they tried to book ANOTHER so called 'convection' in New York, and people doing research found they never even booked the venue, it DIDN'T EXIST. They were selling tickets to a place that DIDN'T EXIST.

The person that signed the documents and papers for the thing to run, DON'T EXIST. Yeah, FORGED DOCUMENTS.

Not a scam? Do some freaking research.

Well for one. I WAS THERE. I live in florda and chose to buy into this so called thing.. Yeah.. scam indeed. The place was dead, the only thing that really livened it up were the people that dressed up and danced a bit. Aside that, NOTHING HAPPENED. Only one thing was given out, no events took place, they had a lone of computers that kids played minecraft on for the so called contest that was bogus. Instead of lego sets they freaking PASSED OUT BOXS OF PENS. as giveaways. Many of us knew it was a scan the moment we walked into the place. Many left in the first few minutes.

But yes... lets get to the sources will we?

Well lets just see. Theres this news report
http://longisland.news12.com/news/meeting-of-the-mines-minecraft-convention-accused-of-scamming-attendees-1.7509614

Then there is the youtube video that breaks it all down
http://www.yogscast.com/video/r6Jv4bL2Vb57/
that tells you in full whats going on.

That got its information from the people whom created the facebook page for the parents that went to this to discuss their stories.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/657015141015053/

The people there delv deep into the whole con, tore apart his so called 'apology and explanation' found out the booking for the place the con was held was truly set at only two hours. The band and all that were hired to help have all come forward to state they hadn't even gotten paid, checks were bouced. The winner of the 1k costom contest has a boused check.

Plus paperwork for the con, and the main event the 'minecrafting' was all forged with a fake name.

Oh and the next con he booked in newyork, people called in to conferm the location... and it wasn't booked at all. No con was going to go on there, so the tickets sold for it well.. they bought a ticket for a con that don't exist.

So then we also have this
http://www.minecrafttv.us/minecraft-tv-announcements/aminecraftscamyupmeetingofthemines-theminecraftscam

The so called sponcers that were also listed on the event were all fake.
The people at Nickelodeon acually posted a statement about it.
"Nickelodeon is not affiliated with the “Meeting of the Mines” event
that took place March 22-23, and the usage of our logo was not
authorized or approved." this is per their Sr Director of Communications.

You could have also did a simple google search 'minecraft meeting of the mines scam' and get 265,000 results from both news reports and the people that sttended's reports on the matter.

MOTM claimed they had to shut down because it was getting 'out of hand' yet there is videos all over of the event and there was no getting out of hand... there was nothing, just everyone standing around doing NOTHING with a few people in costom dancing and trying to make the best of things. No they closed down because their time booking for the place was up. A two day event was booked for only two hours.

Oh and don't get me started on their 'minecrafting' event where they some how promissed kids that they would by some magic be the next youtube star.. that the people there anmd all over would instantl;y fall in love with them and fav and watch their stuff... some how.. by pixy dust maybe.

But yeah, it's really all summed up in the video
http://www.yogscast.com/video/r6Jv4bL2Vb57/

So yeah.. research. Try it some time.

You have no idea what you are talking about then. Some people spent $100s of dollars for WHAT?!?! Oh yeah some things that you can get online such as papercraft or some random pens. Wait... PENS!?!? If you think this isn't a scam talk to the 100 parents that lost money.

Also... OF COURSE they said sorry. They don't want it to look like a scam and more than half didn't get refunds.

Your comment shows that you have no idea what your talking about, and further more the prosecuter is going to be bringing charges against Roman.  By the way here's a link explaining why and how it was a scam.
