If you are a person who plays video games and your parents don't like you playing video games. Show them this blog. It could possibly change their mind about it by 80%.

The Message

Video games from 20 years ago are completely different from the games today! Think about this; you are a parent & you think your kid is not getting any education at all. Well, you are completely wrong! Video Games are fun and educational. It is like learning something new. When your kid gets a new video game, they are completely new to it. Just like if you are learning a new subject in school and have no experience on it. Your son or daughter is experiencing something new and fun. New GUI (Graphic User Interface), New Menu, New Controls. Think of the last time you tried to learn a new program. How do you think that teenagers are getting money from online games and developing programs and videos? When you talk to those people, they will say it is fun, it is like a game. They are not doing it for the money; or fame; or pressure. They're doing it because it is fun to them; and that's how the best innovations are created.

Just like in school, you want them to be organized, right? Well, they are more organized in video games more than you think. They have to know and manage their levels, skill tree, enemy drops, in-game currency, cool downs, tanking, DPS, and healing! You probably have no idea what I just said did you; and you think your child will become more stupid by playing video games? Seriously? HELLLL NO! Put it this way, it is impossible for them to no become smarter by playing video games.

The downside is that they won't use this in school work. Mostly because it has nothing to do with it; and if you think that school is the only way to succeed in life, you need to get with the program. Smart kids all over the world are making good money because they either stream their games or work with a company like Machinima or TGN. How do you think your child is so good understanding new programs and ways around the computer and the internet. Gaming.

What you have been told now, your kids had no idea what they were doing in the beginning and now they are intelligent in that game. You're older and you think you can handle that? Try it for yourself.

I know. Video Games don't make you that much smarter, but it helps you with figuring out decisions faster and better logic. Violent Video Games do NOT make your kids violent. It is your choice to let them play those games. So please do not go off saying I didn't talk about violent video games. When you play realistic violent video games like Call of Duty and Battlefield; here is a fact: just like the game "Shooting a person in real life with at least 2 bullets into the body will kill someone. Don't think it doesn't hurt them"

Finally someone who agrees! My mom doesn't think that knowing how to kill zombies, creepers and skeletons will help me succeed in life, but I know that it will get me a job. Also, I only play video game and I'm now one of the best coders in the world. I just had to mine a few blocks and I had it down. -said no one ever...

I agree with psychopath, to be honest. Learning how the game works isn't really going to help you out in life, sure, it's another experience to be had, but I can learn my way through navigating the menu of Minecraft and... it won't get me a job. Also, learning the skill trees and point systems within games, again, is learning within another world. If you're looking for a job, are you going to learn how to cast spells and kill orcs from LOTR? No, because, outside of that little fantasy, those skills are USELESS. I understand playing those games and having been inspired to write your own code and things like that, but how many games actually allow you to sit down and code, model, etc?

If you honestly think that playing video games can make you smarter then you have a problem. Sure they may help you develop certain skills but the skills that you develop are not going to help you in the real world.
Organizing drops, in-game currency, managing tanking and DPS are all skills related only to games and cannot be translated to life. There is a reason that the "skills" used to play video games are unrelated to schoolwork. Also just because you learn something new does not mean that the platform you learned it in is educational.
Sorry to kill your fantasy but going to school and getting an education is truly the only way you will get anywhere in life. Businesses and companies don't want to hire a person that dropped out of school to make an attempt at professional gaming. They want someone that has at least their high school diploma and some even require a person to have at least a bachelor's degree.
The so called "smart kids" making money from playing games and making videos don't have more than the minimum formal education requirements usually. Getting paid to play video games at a young age doesn't necessarily mean a person is smart either.
I'm trying not be harsh but if you think that playing video games and not putting your education first is going to get you somewhere, then YOU need to get with the program called life.
Wake up and smell the roses because getting an education is the best and most basic route to further your life.
