I just woke up in extreme pain. I do not know how long I have been unconscious but all I remember is falling from a small ¾ foot ledge about 10 feet above me right now. All I have for light is a half-used torch. I am unable to move from the waist down and I know my time left in this world is soon coming to an end. I am writing this guide to survival out of personal knowledge for your personal use.

Chapter 1: The First Night

When you first start off in Minecraft you must take into consideration that the days are very short and you have to work hastily. The first thing you have to do is find a good location. Be sure to have some trees nearby, or you gather some sapling along the way. After that you will want to punch some trees and gather some wood. With this you will want to make a crafting table. With this crafting table you can make an array of different things like doors, tools, weaponry, etc.

After you find your building site, dig small staircase underground (if there is a mountain or small hill near you dig straight into that instead). At the bottom of that small “staircase” make an opening large enough for you to fit through, there will be a door there later. Inside of that opening make a small room. Inside of that room you will put at least one of each of the following: a bed, a crafting table, a furnace, and a chest.

Chapter 2: Gathering Food

There are two ways to gather food in Minecraft. You can kill or you can grow. The only tool you will need to farm is a hoe, there is no specific tool for slaughtering animals. You can use anything from a clock to cocoa beans.

Growing

-Wheat: 1 Wheat; 0-3 Seeds

-Potato: 1-4 Potatoes

-Carrot: 1-4 Carrots

-Melon: 3-7 Melon Slices

Slaughtering

-Cow: 1-3 Raw Beef

-Mooshroom: 1-3 Raw Beef

-Chicken: 1 Raw Chicken *Eating raw chicken may cause illness.

-Sheep: 1-2 Raw Mutton

-Pig: 1-3 Raw Porkchop

-Rabbit: 0-1 Raw Rabbit

You can also use other resources to make food such as pumpkin pie or cake. You can use eggs, sugar, milk, pumpkins, etc. to make recipes and

treats.

Chapter 3: Crafting

To craft basic items all you need is your inventory, for more elaborate items you need to have a crafting table. To get a crafting table place four wooden planks (any kind) in the crafting station in your inventory filling it all in. Then place the crafting table and right click. With that you can make anything from tools to blocks.

Chapter 4: Mining & Smeltery

Mining

To mine you need a pickaxe of any sort. If you do not have one then the block will just break and you will not get it. For materials such as gold and diamond you need an iron pickaxe or else it is like you did not use a tool and you do not get it.

Smeltery

You can use smelting for a variety of things. You can use it to make ingots or even to cook meat. To use a furnace you need some sort of fuel. You can use coal, wood, lava, blaze rods, etc.

*Sleeping while smelting does not speed up the process.

Chapter 5: Tools, Weapons, & Armor

Tools

Tools are used to help you survive, for example axes make chopping down trees faster, shovel make getting rid of dirt faster, or pickaxes making mining faster. There are different levels of tools too. Wood,  Stone, Iron, Gold, and Diamond.

Weapons

Weapons are used for defense and butchery. You can use them to fend off monsters or slaughter animals for food. Unlike tools, you can still kill monsters and animals without sword or bows. The swords come in all kinds (wood, stone, iron, gold, and diamond), while bows only come in a single kind which is immutable.

Armor

Armor allows you to take more damage than without it. Just like tools and weapons, all armor (helmets, chestplates, leggings, and boots) has different types (leather, iron, gold, and diamond.). Depending on the type of armor determines how effective the armor is. For example, a diamond chestplate can tolerate 529 hits, while a leather chestplate can only withstand 81.

Chapter 6: Redstone

In Minecraft, redstone has a variety of different uses. You can use it for lighting, to make automatic doors, making traps, etc. The redstone current spans 15 blocks from the source and can power everything within that space (will appear bright red when there is power running through it and dark red when there is not). You can use it in crafting and brewing as well (see chapter 5). You can use several different things to generate redstone such as daylight sensors, pressure plates, buttons, and levers.

-Repeater: Delays energy flow.

-Comparator: These have two modes: comparison mode and subtraction mode. When in comparison mode if input B is greater than or equal to input A then it cancels it out. In subtraction mode, when you turn on input B then it only allows the amount of current to go through based on how far away it is. For example if the lever switched on input B is six blocks away then it will only let six blocks of energy current through the comparator.

-Daylight Sensor: Only generates power during the day.

Chapter 7: Enchantment

Enchantment is a method used to improve the strength or efficiency of an item. Although you can only enchant weapons, tools, and armor it helps a great deal with protection and strength. When you enchant, it costs lapis and experience points. Experience points are put into levels which appear as the greeny-yellow bar above your hotbar.

Chapter 8: Brewing

Brewing is used for temporary protection or to inflict harm on other mobs. There are two types of potions, drinking potions and splash potions. To make a splash potion add gunpowder after you finish making the potion. To add it put it in as an ingredient to the potion. To make a potion you will need ingredients such as ghast tears, fermented spider eyes, or netherwart. With potions you can decrease fall damage, breathe underwater, or even become invisible.

Chapter 9: Trading

You can trade with villagers for many different items. The items they trade depends on what kind of villager you trade with. For example, if you trade with a blacksmith then he will give you tools, weapons, or armor. For the first few trades it will be items such as paper or feathers. Later on it will become emeralds. You trade the items (paper or feathers) for emeralds which you will trade for items such as armor.

Chapter 10: The Nether & The End

Besides The Overworld (the main world where you spawn), there are two other dimensions: The Nether and The End. To get to these worlds you must travel through a special portal. A Nether portal can be made, but an End portal must be found.

The Nether

To get to the Nether, you make a portal out of obsidian. To get obsidian have water fall on top of the lava and that will create the obsidian you need. To mine the obsidian that you have just created you will need a diamond pickaxe. If you try to mine it with anything else than it will just disappear instead of you collecting it, and it would take longer too. Now place it in a rectangular shape, upright, and in the middle light it like a fire. The portal will open and you can now travel to the Nether. In the Nether there are some mobs. There are ghasts, pigmen, blazes, etc. Pigman are the only neutral mob living in the Nether, all of the other mob are hostile.

*Do NOT build with wood in the Nether, it will burn to the ground.

The End

The End is the third dimension in Minecraft, it is also the hardest to get to. First, you need Eye’s of Ender to lead you to the stronghold where the portal lies. There you will need 12 more Eye’s of Ender to enable the portal. Once you have that step completed you must make sure that you have appropriate weaponry and protection (armor, potions, and enchantments). The thing you will want to do is kill the Ender Dragon. To do that, the first thing you must do is to destroy the Ender Crystals sitting atop the large obsidian pillars. Once those have been destroyed, the dragon has no sources to regenerate its health. This means that you can now kill it. Although killing the dragon takes quite some time, it is worth it in the end. After you have butchered the vile creature a portal home will appear someplace in the End, you must find it. On top of the portal will be an egg, that egg is from the Ender Dragon. You can get it using pistons, or you can place a torch a block beneath the block the egg is sitting and then break that block. Once you enter the portal you will find yourself back in the Overworld (after a long story of course, what is a game without a long story at the end?).

CreditThanks to eagoy for the idea of the spoiler since the main text is a bit challenging to read.

Nice formatting choice. The font looks like it's handwritten, though it's a bit harder to read. Maybe add a spoiler with inside a default text version of it?

Anyway good luck with the contest although you're competition!
