Hello everyone! I was going through my Minecraft world at Halloween and I saw a zombie with a pumpkin on his head. I remembered hearing about last year's Halloween and the Easter eggs that Notch implemented. So, I decided to tell you all about the past and current Easter eggs.
In the year
April fools 2011
Notch found it highly amusing to make locked chests randomly generate around your world. When attempting to open the chest, a message would appear stating that a Steve Co. Supply Crate Key is needed and that one could be purchased at the Minecraft store. In the Minecraft store, there where several suprises.
Just like this year, zombies and skeletons sometimes spawned Pumpkins or Jack 'o' Lanterns on their heads. This was added in 1.4.2, 2 minor updates after the Very scary update.
Christmas 2012:
For two days after Christmas eve 2012, Chests, both large and small, had their textures changed to Christmas presents. There was also a texture named "skis.png", added in 1.4.6, in the same folder as the chests.
April fools 2013:
As a joke, Mojang realeased Minecraft 2.0. This version included things that Made Minecrafter's everywhere say "This game is changing", things that made people look foreward to it,but most inmportantly, things that I will not mention in this blog, or else , at this rate, we'll never get to the minecraft.jar Easter eggs.
Halloween 2013:
I believe that it is the same thing as Halloween 2012, but I'll keep my eye on the wiki page and update this blog as soon as I can.
April fools 2014:
Everybody's skin was repaced with the villager skin. Elementanimation's Dan Llyod made sounds for every action in the game, including walking, mob noises, blocks noises and even the music. It was released for download to the public on april 2nd, but on april 1st, everyone was pretty much stuck with it.
Minecraft.jar:
Textures:
Zombie pigman:
In an unused area for the Zombie Pigman's texture, the words "THX XAPHOBIA" can be seen. This was written by Notch to give credit to the texture's original creator, XaPhobia.
Locked chests:
Locked chests are still in the game, but since April fools 2011, they have a black and purple "missing texture". You can obtain them by typing either /give @p 95 or (I am not making this up) / setblock [x][y][z] minecraft:chest_locked_aprilfools_super_old_legacy_we_should_not_even_have_this.
These two ways to get it do not work in 1.7.2, but the second way will, in the future, be the only way to get it.
Splash texts:
Useless spash text (or "never displayed spash"):
Within the "texts" folder, there will be a document labeled "splashes." The document contains all the splashes you see on the title screen. One of them is "This message will never appear on the splash screen, isn't that weird?" And, true enough, it will never show up on the splash screen. If this splash is the only splash in the splashes folder then the game will get stuck in an infinite loop!
Missingno.:
If one were to delete the file splash.txt without deleting the META-INF folder, the splash text on the title screen would appear to be missingno. This is a reference to the infamous Glitch Pokémon, Missingno.
Other:
"Minceraft":
There is a one in 10,000 chance that the title screen will display "Minceraft" instead of "Minecraft". Also, the beginning of any crash log has a chance to have the phrase "You should try our sister game, Minceraft!"
Dinnerbone's death:
Dinnerbone was slain in the first episode of Mindcrack UHC Season 11 by the user Docm77. In response to this, Dinnerbone hinted at the defeat in Minecraft by adding a new splash text, "What's up, Doc?", in the 13w23a snapshot. In the blogpost for the snapshot, he also placed a fake fixed bug in between other legitimate bug fixes:
[BUG MC-84211] o Remove o docm77o ² mob as it is not working as intended.
Click here to watch what really happened.
Upside-down mobs:
Naming any mob "Dinnerbone" or "Grumm" using a name tag or a renamed spawn egg (first letter must be capital) will cause it to turn upside-down. This also causes Dinnerbone and Grumm's avatars to be rendered upside-down. This is really intended to be in the game.
Launcher:
Herobrine "bug fix":
This is the one you've all been waiting for...: Mojang isn't trying to remove Herobrine anymore. The "removed Herobrine" part of updates are a running gag.
There you are, the easter eggs in Minecraft. If I missed one, mention it in the comments below.
If you like, favorite or diamond.

- Clicking on the proceed to checkout button triggers a screamer in which a Velociraptor from the film Jurassic Park will growl loudly and fly across the screen. Once clicked, the Proceed button also changes its display name to 'Fiddlesticks!!!1'. (The 1 is a reference to the! key being the same as the 1 key, and that sometimes people may forget to press shift)
- Entering items totaling over $10,000 into the cart causes a window pop-up asking if you are prone to seizures. Entering OK makes the screen start flashing.
- The script that causes the Velociraptor to appear has a reference to the Konami Code in it.

I don't know about locked chests. I just write about them.
