Hello yo all ruincastler1 here with my first REAL long tutorial blog. This, as the title suggests, is a tutorial on how too ¦well, survive in Minecraft. So leto s get started.

This blog series will be released one part at a time. The part below is called, The Basics. It basically covers spawn scenarios, and tells you what to do during the first few nights. Look for part 2 coming soon for more in depth information about survival.

(Set bonus chest ON if you want a small boost to start your adventure)

The Basics

So, you walk into the Minecraft world with no idea what awaits youo ¦best thing to do is take stock of your surroundings. So in other words, find out what biome youo re in. Io m going to walk you through each biome, and how to begin in each of them. The difficulty rating is given in stars, with 5 being maximum, and one being minimum.

Plains: (****)
Hmmmm. This might be a bit difficult. There wono t be many trees nearby, so youo re gonna want to find shelter underground for your first nighto ¦unless you want a house made out of dirt. The best way to do this would be to dig straight down, then cover the hole with some dirt. This will keep you safe from mobs for the night. Or, you could play macho and try to fight themo ¦not wise AT ALL. Next day, walk straight for as long as you can, killing passive mobs along the way for resources. Youo ll eventually find a forest/jungle/taiga biome (NOT SNOW, snow is basically just plains biome with snowo ¦), which will obviously have trees. Please scroll down to my guide on these relevant biomes for more information.

Pros: hard for mobs to surprise you

Cons: no wood :0

Forest: (*)

Perfect, just great. Some nice flat land (usually) with plenty of wood for resources. Start punching those trees right away! Use the wood sparingly: there isno t a huge amount of trees like jungle biomes.

Pros: plenty of resources

Cons: easier for mobs to surprise you

Jungle: (**)

Wowo ¦big treeso ¦Yeah thereo s gonna be no shortage of wood if you spawn here. This will make it nice and easy to collect large amounts of resources. Only one small problem: the pure density of this biome makes it difficult to traverse.
Pros: Huge amount of wood

Cons: difficult to travel, very easy for mobs to scare you, hard to mine

Snow: (****)
See my guide on the plains biome.

Taiga: (**)

See my guide on the forest biome. The only difference is the presence of wolves, which accounts for an additional difficulty star.

Mountains/Hills: (**)

Ito s gonna be nice and easy to collect stoneo ¦if you can risk the huge drops and difficulty of scaling the giant mountains and hills. Also, there might be a sparse amount of trees. Save your wood!

Pros: easy to collect stone and mine

Cons: difficult to collect wood, risks of falling, difficult to traverse

Desert: (*****)
Oh boy, if you spawn here youo re going to have a tough time. Ito s basically plains biome without the nice ability to build structures of dirt and dig underground. You REALLY need to get out of there as soon as possible and find a biome with trees.

Pros: hard for mobs to surprise you

Cons: No trees, sand cannot be built with, cacti

Okay, this is the end of part 1: The Basics. Look out for part 2: Crafting, Smelting, and Mining!
