If you think about it Minecraft is both a lot like real life and also very different. Minecraft is a Sandbox game which means It has no real objective. But honestly life has no objective. You just either achieve or quit what your trying to do then move on. Below is a table of just some of the similarities and differences.

Okay some of you wanted expansion so here it is ;)
(I'm referring to Vanilla single player minecraft here.)
1. Resources
In some ways such as this minecraft can be harder than life. In Mine Craft you have to gather some wood by breaking a tree with your bare hands. What you do with that wood is the important part though. You improve off it you use it to make tools. You use those tools to make better and better and better tools. With those tools you make protection such as armour and swords. You use that to kills mobs that are in turn trying to kill you. But you survive even thrive you gather food and build your self a House or even a mansion! You're not born in a hospital and raised till you can get a job and pay people for your stuff all the time. YOU make it all.
2. Acceptance
In life we feel the need for a purpose. We constantly come up with theories about how we were created. Weather it be a Sea Turtle with the world on it's back or the Big Bang Theory, We feel the need to know. However in Minecraft you just click that "create world" button and there it is the universe just pops up and there is Steve. Through out the game Steve doesn't wonder why he's there. He just goes on weather it be improving his mansions roof or punching his first tree he accepts that his universe just poped up.
3. Evolution
As humans we have evolved from apes wielding sticks to fight of predetors to intelligent beings. We have done this because intelligence and tools is our advantage. On the other hand Steve isn't the smartest thing ever but he is strong. As the world changes from simple predators to hostile mobs such as the Giant Spider and Sulpher charged Creeper Steve changed with it. Steve evolved to fight these kill on sight mobs. He got stronger (he can break trees with his hands!) there are many more similarities and extream differences but if I were to write them all you would be reading for days.
