Hello. Overfritz here, with a blog containing something that Minecraft needs, or at least, needs some way of being implemented. I bring you, Books+.

What is Books+? It's simply this - being able to expand the current writable book size and such. Being capable to make your book 25, 50, or even 75 pages long! Being able to actually have a cover page, with a color, title, and your name! Being able to *gasp* actually use bookshelves to store your precious literary works.

While playing Minecraft, sometimes I have felt the need to write a nice, long book, maybe even a guide to the world, or better yet, as an RPG map element that needs extensive detail. I've always found Vanilla Minecraft's books to be lacking in how they behave, what with only 50 pages, not having a customizable cover page, and not even being able to view two pages at once, like a real book. A mod could do this, but why a mod? Nobody else could read your extensive literary works unless they had it too, making the mod almost pointless. It would become something only you could benefit from, with no way to easily share it to people who don't mod their Minecraft. Books+ is what should solve that very issue.

The Basis of Books+

Books+ would, in theory, do something amazing - make it possible to make books of different thickness. For those who just write simple stories and guides - do you really need all of those 50 pages to write that? Perhaps a smaller, 25 page book is more for you? A 25 page thick book, with a cover color you can customize to your liking? Maybe a lime cover, with a nice large title and your name, in small text at the bottom? Go ahead. It's your book now.

Or what if you still need that 50 page book, but just want to customize? Go ahead, there's no change to the regular book. Just a nice pretty cover for your book with maybe a little pink, or the classic brown? Have fun.

Maybe you need a book larger than either of those? That's where the 75 page book comes in. Fully customizable to the players need, the 75 page book still can have a color cover with the text sized just as you like. It's still yours, and it always will be. Unless you sell that novel for money. Then it's theirs.

These three base ideas are inspired by the Moleskine notebooks, each of them coming in a different, simple design but packed with strength. Now, the players can make their books as awesome and awe-inspiringly simple and cool as the Moleskine notebooks.

What else can Books+ do?

Books+ also would add in the ability to, yet again, use your bookshelves for storing your books. For once the bookshelves are no longer decoration, they are now mini-chests, being able to store up to 9 books, any size or color, per shelf. You can, of course, place other small items in here (Diamond Sword sitting with your latest autobiography? Yes, please!) to more realistically simulate a bookshelf. This way, the many libraries made in Minecraft can actually be used as libraries, having the player have to search for their desired book.

You also can, of course, set your books down on the surface of the earth. Behaving like immobile mobs, they easily break after a hit or two, returning the original book back to you. Right-clicking it would bring up the book you would see if it was opened through your inventory. This could make for an interesting addition to libraries, enabling people to read their book ahead of time before check-out or purchase (or stealing, if you prefer).

Anything else Books+ can do?

You got here before I did! Congratulations on winning! Here's a prize - what else it does!

It does nothing else other than what I said! It's that simple!

How would you craft these other books?

This is what I absolutely love about this - how do you make it? Simple! To make the regular 50-page book, just make it like you would a regular book! To make it 25, use 2 pieces of paper instead of three! To make it a 75 page book, put both the 50-page and 25-page unwritten books into the crafting table, and tada! Your original books is now even longer!

How do you change their colors? Very easily - plop either the written or unwritten book into the crafting table with the dye of your choice, and the covers become that color! To make it back to its regular color, just apply some cocoa beans to it, returning the book to its natural brown color.

Thank you for reading this Minedea. It's something that I really believe should be added, or even just a part of it to make books be more realistic, and behave like the human counterpart.

CreditMoleskine for making their epic notebooks, and Greytopher for giving me inspiration for the blog design (It isn't 100% like his, but it shouldn't. Pagarism, folks!)
