How to Write a Good Minecraft-Related Blog Post

by jhask

Looking around on PMC, you can find a lot of blog posts. However, many of these posts are just cobbled together bits of nonsense instead of the solid, concise, and helpful/informative posts you would like them to be. I decided that this needs to come to a stop. In this tutorial, I will tell you how to write a well-planned blog no matter what Minecraft subject it is about.

Grammar and Spelling

One of the most important things in writing ANY blog post, not just one about Minecraft, is the use of grammar and spelling. The proper use of grammar can make even a stupid post look 10 times better. If you feel your grammar is a little shaky, use Google or a word processor like Microsoft Word 2010 to see the correct way of writing your sentence. (Note: Microsoft Word and any source found on Google may not always be correct, but in general they are). Even if you're foreign and do not understand English completely, you can try researching about grammar and spelling. Some non-english speakers end up using better grammar than native English speakers!

Presentation

Grammar alone will not make your post amazing. How you present information is a big part of writing a good PMC blog post as well. No matter what the topic, whether it be building, skinning, texturing, or a server review, good presentation is a must. Organize your thoughts before you write. Also, plan a "layout" for your post. Will it be split up into sections like this one? Will it be a numbered or bulleted list? Or will it be an organized 5 paragraph essay? Whichever you choose, make sure it fits your topic and flows well from idea to idea.

Use of Other Media

Although not necessary to make a good blog post, other media sources can be an awesome and dynamic presence in your post. If you make Minecraft videos, make a short on related to your blog post, and stick it in there! It will add a professional touch to your post. Is your blog post reviewing your favorite Minecraft server? Take some screenshots of gameplay on that server, touch them up in Gimp or Photoshop, and add them into your post. Again, this will make your post look professional and well-thought out, even if it isn't that great in reality.

Cite your Sources

If you use info or media from an outside source (one that is not your own), please state where you got that information. Also, if you link to somebody's project or skin on PMC, show that you have their consent to do that! This will not only verify the info in your blog post for the reader, it will prevent any flame wars over "plagiarism" and the sort.

Not trying to be annoying, but technically it doesn't count as a Minecraft Blog, that's what the competition was about, this has nothing to do with Minecraft so... Like I said before it technically doesn't count.
